Overview

Day-in-the-Life in Chicago Step into a large-scale, food-grade manufacturing plant where uptime is everything. Your morning starts by scanning maintenance work orders and recent alarms, then diving into PLC diagnostics across platforms like Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, Schneider Electric, and Modicon. You’ll move from a tripped breaker in a control panel to a finicky sensor on a conveyor, keeping production safe and efficient. Midday might see you commissioning a new VFD, performing advanced wiring on a panel upgrade, or calibrating a set of temperature, pressure, and level instruments. You’ll tune 3-phase motors, verify communication networks, and bring stubborn systems back online—fast. By afternoon, you’re coaching junior maintenance team members, closing out PM tasks, and documenting machine safety inspections. Throughout the day you uphold OSHA practices and strict sanitation protocols in a unionized environment. What You’ll Do

Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, PLCs, control panels, relays, breakers, communication networks, and alarm systems. Install and commission new electrical equipment with minimal supervision. Diagnose issues, replace faulty components, and execute advanced wiring assignments. Support and troubleshoot VFDs, 3‑phase motors, and process sensors (temperature, pressure, level). Provide technical guidance and assistance to junior maintenance staff. Follow all safety and sanitation procedures in a food-grade, unionized setting. Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED plus a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training. At least 3 years of industrial/manufacturing maintenance experience. Strong electrical foundation with proven PLC troubleshooting skills. Ability to wire and test 3‑phase motors and to calibrate industrial sensors. PLC programming exposure (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or similar). Control panel installation and troubleshooting expertise. Experience with sanitary or hazardous process instrumentation in food or consumer goods plants. Core Competencies
