Overview
Under general supervision and following established procedures, stains, mounts slides and microscopically studies cells from the human body to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities and other pathological conditions. Microscopically examines stained slides from a variety of biological materials in order to detect cancer or other cellular abnormalities. Searches for minute abnormalities in size, shape, color and arrangements of cells which may indicate disease. Prepares specimens for examination, utilizing appropriate laboratory techniques and protocols. Classifies cells according to established categories. Determines whether cells are abnormal and whether slide should be reviewed and examined by other laboratory personnel. Reviews and classifies all abnormal cases held for pathologist’s review; prepares and submits reports to physicians and other authorized personnel. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, conferences, professional affiliations. Adheres compliance with established administrative laboratory policies and procedures. Maintains compliance with requirements of laboratory safety, OSHA, assurance accreditation and regulatory agencies. Performs other related duties as required. Responsibilities

Bachelor’s degree in cytology or related science, or equivalent education and experience to obtain certification. Registered or registry-eligible with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Employment details
