Position Purpose

This position provides instruction in Biology, program and curriculum development specializing in field biology, organismal biology, and/or conservation biology. This position advises and mentors students and participates in marketing and recruitment for the Biology program as assigned by the Chair of the Natural Sciences Department. Although expertise in organismal biology is preferred, outstanding candidates with all biology backgrounds are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time position with full-time benefits. Must be 19 years of age to apply.

Responsibilities

Teach classes in biology and closely related areas based on the needs of the Natural Sciences Department. The candidate shall be willing to teach a variety of biology and closely related science courses, based on the qualifications of the candidate. Preferred instructional assignments include Ecology and Field Biology, Conservation Biology, Botany and/or Zoology, Midwest Floral Identification and/or Vertebrate Anatomy.

Engage in departmental planning, course and program assessment, curriculum development, student advising, and assistance with student recruitment.

Mentor students involved in research.

Provide leadership for student internships and job opportunities including maintaining and establishing contacts in business and industry.

Work with colleagues from multiple departments to serve the university.

Actively pursue scholarly and academic research activities that are mutually beneficial.

Work with other faculty in the department to ensure that biology laboratory facilities are fully operational with proper supplies and teaching tools.

Manage and maintain plants and animals needed for the program, as appropriate.

Manage and maintain the student study prairie.

Demonstrate a willingness to enthusiastically embrace the mission and vision of Concordia University, Nebraska.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education

Ph.D. or terminal degree in Biology or a closely related field preferred.

Candidates who have earned a Master\'s degree and who agree to pursue a terminal degree will be considered.

Experience

Appropriate successful experience in the workplace or in a classroom that will lead to successful university-level teaching and mentoring in an acceptable subset of the following areas:

Evidence of excellence in teaching, preferably at the college or university level.

Successful student-friendly advising and mentoring experience at the university level.

Familiarity with higher education, curriculum planning, course development, best teaching and administrative practices; or a record of excellence in teaching.

Preferences

Active membership in a Christian congregation is required. Lutheran Church Missouri Synod membership preferred.
