Software Department Manager
3 to join our Strike Software Leadership team. The successful candidate will lead the Strike Mission Software Department within the Strike Software Center. This position can be located in
San Diego, California or El Segundo, California . Essential Functions
Provides expert guidance to program(s) to solve technical and/or process issues throughout the software development lifecycle. Leads the effort for process improvement & technical execution. Leads strategies to improve, develop and maintain talent in the organization. Sets operating objectives and provides guidance to section managers. Develops and incorporates gold standard measurements to assess health and quality of software across program(s). Assesses program health and performance individually and as part of an Independent Review Team (IRT). May also lead IRTs. Collaborates with Program Leaders to quantify staffing demand; develops strategies and executes plans to meet or beat to enable successful program execution. Ensures workforce is properly trained for successful achievement of program goals. Interacts with equivalent level managers and programs to maintain performance. The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels. Must be able to rapidly assess and lend guidance to projects assigned to the organizational group as well as demonstrate mentoring and guidance to engineers. Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field AND 9 years of related professional/military experience that includes a background in software development, OR a Master’s degree AND 7 years of related professional/military experience that includes a background in software development. Experience leading software teams with at least 10 software engineers. Experience with software process improvement. Experience in one or more of the following software areas: Software Architecture, Cloud & Application, Embedded Software, Automated Software Testing, Software Integration with real-time hardware, DevOps. An active in-scope DoD Top Secret Clearance. Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Program Access (SAP/PAR). Preferred Qualifications
Experience with incorporating Agile Methodologies. Experience within the Defense Industry. Experience within the Aerospace Industry. Experience with managing Embedded Software Teams, Cloud Software teams and/or Application development teams. Experience with incorporating progress & quality software metrics. Experience with managing staff for 50+ software engineers. Experience in recruiting/developing/managing multiple software disciplines from cloud engineers to embedded software engineers. Experience in leading other managers. Experience in leading senior software architect(s). Leadership experience on multiple programs. Current Program Access. Salary and Benefits
Primary Level Salary Range: $187,000.00 - $280,600.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
