GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the general guidance of the medical director, the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with diseases and adverse health conditions following the written guidelines approved by the department. Serve as the first point of contact for inpatient care for cardiology, managing daily rounds both independently and in collaboration with physicians. Complete documentation and billing in compliance with hospital standards. Ensure adherence to post-procedural protocols and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support timely discharges. Manage direct admissions, including initial evaluation and coordination of care. Evaluate consults, formulate assessments, and propose plans of care in partnership with the cardiologist. Order and interpret appropriate imaging and laboratory studies to support clinical decision-making and patient care planning. Identify, order, and monitor appropriate pharmacologic agents in accordance with clinical guidelines and patient needs. Coordinate and discuss patient care with consulting services, ensuring collaborative and comprehensive treatment planning. Assess the physical and psychosocial status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies. Recognize deviations from normal in the physical assessment; work in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up. Write prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols. Determine eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials based on findings. Request written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care. Interpret and evaluate findings of studies/tests. Relay appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician. Administer therapeutic measures and obtain specimens as prescribed. Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement. Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the client. Dictate follow-up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response, and plan. Maintain provision of preventive health services (e.g. screening, risks assessment, immunizations, PAP smears, self-breast exam). Dictate or write patient history, admissions, care plans, progress, and discharge notes. Interact with program assistants and data managers for optimal patient care. Assist in the management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patient care. Conduct or participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and ensure appropriate and quality care for assigned patient. Provide on-call coverage. Perform patient triage and determine the urgency of physician's evaluation. Provide symptom management for side effects related to oncologic treatment. Qualifications
Education / Training: Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies Work Experience: 1 to 3 years' experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in a Cardiovascular clinical setting, preferred. Ability to work with minimal supervision as part of a collaborative team.
