Strategic Initiatives Communications Lead
The Strategic Initiatives Communications Lead plays a critical role in developing and executing plans to engage and inform employees at all levels of the business. This role focuses on increasing the impact of internal communication events and initiatives with flawless execution. The ideal candidate is detailed-oriented, skilled at event management, and can shape internal narratives while navigating complex challenges with discretion and impact. This position partners with the communications leadership team to shape the future of GM by driving strategic events that build connection, clarity, and confidence across the workforce.
Hybrid/Relocation/Sponsorship Hybrid:
This role is based in Warren or Detroit, MI and requires in-office presence at least 3 days per week or as determined by the business.
Relocation:
Not eligible for relocation; relocation costs are the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Strategic Initiatives Communications Lead – Responsibilities
Develop, execute, and support planning and execution of the company’s largest internal events (Global Employee Q&As, All Executive Meetings, Senior Leader Meetings), elevating content to increase impact at all levels.
Drive the strategy and execution of internal communications programs that enhance the employee experience and build confidence in leadership.
Shape messaging and platforms that amplify leadership voices, ensuring transparency, authenticity, and inspiration in internal storytelling.
Use data and employee insights to measure effectiveness and refine communication strategies for maximum impact.
Support content development for Senior Leader and All Executive communications, collaborating with other parts of the business to tailor content for top leaders.
Manage executive distribution lists foundational to Senior Leader Hub, Senior Leader Meetings, and All Executive Meetings.
Manage amplification plans for large internal events, providing compelling content for leaders to cascade to their teams.
Develop and implement a cohesive internal communications strategy for the EST, focused on increasing employee understanding of GM’s purpose, vision, strategy, and values.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
8+ years of experience in internal or corporate communications, or a related field
Proven ability to develop and execute high-impact internal communications strategies for a large, complex organization
Strong writing and storytelling skills, with experience crafting executive messaging and internal campaigns
Strategic mindset with attention to detail
Experience working with global teams and diverse workforces in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
Ability to work cross-functionally, influencing HR, legal, communications, and business leadership
Problem solving and analytical ability
Independent thinking and decision-making skills
Strong planning and organizational skills
