Overview
The Opportunity
The Humanities Scholars Program (HSP) is seeking a Program Coordinator to support key academic and administrative operations. This position offers a dynamic opportunity to work closely with faculty, students, and campus partners in a vibrant academic environment. Reporting to the Program Manager and Faculty Director, the Program Coordinator plays a central role in the success of the HSP. The Program Coordinator manages the undergraduate application and admissions process, administers research and internship funding, and supports the annual search for postdoctoral associates who contribute to the program’s teaching and mentorship mission.
Key Responsibilities
Admissions & Funding Coordination: Oversee the undergraduate admissions process, including communication with applicants and selection committees. Administer research funding and summer internship stipends for program participants.
Postdoctoral Search: Coordinate annual recruitment of postdoctoral associates, managing application materials and correspondence with committees.
Data & Reporting: Maintain participant databases and track engagement and outcomes for internal and external reporting (College and Alumni Affairs & Development).
Curriculum & Course Support: Assist the Director with course planning and scheduling, including data entry in Cornell’s course systems, arranging cross-listings, classroom scheduling, and liaising with instructors.
Event Management: Plan and execute HSP events such as lectures, symposia, and receptions—handling logistics including space reservations, catering, A/V coordination, photography, and vendor payments. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
Communications & Outreach: Manage event publicity and program communications, including print and digital materials, newsletters, social media, and the program website. Write and edit promotional and impact-focused content such as event previews, articles, and the weekly newsletter.
Creative Projects: Design and produce marketing materials such as posters, newsletters, and promotional items to highlight program achievements and opportunities.
This is a part-time (35 hours/week, 10 months/year (August – May)) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY and fully on-site. The specific 35 hours will be mutually agreed upon and may vary to accommodate evening or weekend events.
About the Humanities Scholars Program The Humanities Scholars Program (HSP), an undergraduate program in the College of Arts & Sciences, supports an interdisciplinary undergraduate humanities research community through programming, curated coursework, career development, faculty and postdoctoral associate research mentorship, research funds, and summer internship stipends.
Qualifications and What We Need We are seeking a team member who is student-centered, detail oriented, and proficient at verbal and written communication. You will have:
An Associate’s degree, 4 - 6 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong organizational, communication, writing, administrative, and customer service skills required.
Sound judgment and ease with both written and verbal contacts with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and administrators throughout Cornell.
A keen attention to detail, ability to work independently and to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
Experience in graphic design and web maintenance.
Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as an ability or interest in using Photoshop, InDesign, social media, and any Cornell systems that might be required (CourseLeaf, KFS, PeopleSoft, Drupal).
Sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural differences.
Experience modeling values that support inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing.
