Equivalency procedures apply for applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications but believe they possess the equivalent. Submit an Equivalency Application Form with full supporting documentation (mail to the Human Resources Department; this is separate from the online application). All non-U.S. transcripts must be evaluated by an evaluation and translation service for equivalency. The Equivalency Application Form may be downloaded from the district website in the Human Resources area. Note: Denial by the Equivalency Committee is final. If applying for another position in the same discipline, you may submit a new Equivalency Determination with additional evidence by the application deadline. Application Procedures
Required documents will include: Current resume, copies of credentials, and copies of transcripts from fully accredited institutions. Upload transcripts to the online application. Transcripts must include degree awarded and confer date. A master’s degree must be conferred at the time of application. Diplomas do not substitute for transcripts. Only conferred transcripts are required unless hired. Non-U.S. transcripts require a certified evaluation/translation document certifying equivalence to a U.S. degree. Applications and attachments are accepted only through the online process. Confidential letters of recommendation are not accepted by email or fax; letters of recommendation are optional and may be uploaded if available. Duties & Responsibilities
Teach assigned lecture and lab courses in the Child Development Department consistent with the department’s standards. Teaching assignments may include Lab School Practicum, Growth and Development, Child/Family Community, Curriculum courses, Administration, and others. Maintain competency in the field of Child Development. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, and weekend hours. Minimum Qualifications
Option 1: Master’s Degree from an accredited college/university in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; OR Option 2: Bachelor’s Degree as listed, AND Master’s Degree from an accredited college/university in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies; OR Option 3: Lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing service to teach Child Development (credentials issued prior to 1990); OR Option 4: Equivalent qualifications (equivalency procedures apply; not a waiver of minimum qualifications); Option 5: Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work with diverse student populations. Desirable Qualifications
Bilingual in Spanish and/or Cantonese. Experience directing a preschool program or laboratory school. Experience teaching at the college level with a diverse student population. Experience teaching in learning communities/cohorts. Other Requirements
