Position Summary

Student Services Professional II – 3082, CARE Case Manager. This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month permanent position with a one-year probationary period in the Dean of Students Department. Position Scope:

Reports to the Dean of Students and works under the Lead CARE Coordinator to assist students in navigating campus and community resources and to lead in case management services. Collaborates with campus partners to support at-risk students referred by university personnel. Includes addressing student issues with complexity where guidelines may not exist.

Key Responsibilities

CARE Case Management – 35%

Meet with students to provide referral services and connect them with on- and off-campus resources.

Serve as resource and liaison to the University community on student wellbeing and students of concern.

Notify faculty on behalf of students and address questions related to CARE services while upholding FERPA confidentiality.

Collaborate with the Lead CARE Coordinator to provide case management and support for appointments.

Conduct case assessments and coordinate follow-up as designated by leadership.

Assist in overall CARE program assessment and reporting; support students returning from medical leaves of absence as needed.

Uphold FERPA, HIPAA, and other relevant laws; maintain confidentiality at high standards.

Provide Maxient database support for the Office of the Dean of Students in coordination with the CARE team.

Website and Outreach – 35%

Lead development and maintenance of the CARE website to ensure current information and functioning links.

Design and deliver CARE-specific training for faculty, staff, and students on students of concern, mental health, and available resources.

Collaborate on programs and publications; conduct trainings to educate the campus about student well-being and responding to students in distress.

Professional Development – 25%

Stay informed about trends in student mental health, substance use, and wellbeing.

Participate in professional development and relevant conferences and workshops.

Other Duties as Assigned – 5%

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of program operations and general organizational management; understanding of research and interview techniques and of individual and group behavior principles.

Ability to interpret and apply program rules; plan work with initiative; gather and interpret information; reason logically; present data verbally or in writing; advise students individually and in groups; respect diverse value systems; build cooperative relationships across campus and with external partners.

Ability to support confidential information and maintain FERPA/HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:

Possession of the knowledge and abilities typically demonstrated by two years of professional experience in a student services program area or related field; evidence of competence and growth potential. A master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.

Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a related field. Additional specialized experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Upper-division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution.

Two years of professional student services experience with interventions and referrals addressing mental/physical health, food insecurity, homelessness, and navigating systems and policies.

Strong understanding of barriers faced by at‑risk student populations, informed by personal experience where applicable.
