The YWCA of Western MA is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering survivors. The YW provides a safe place for survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and homelessness. Our programs and services include crisis shelter and transitional housing for survivors and their families, 24-hour bilingual hotline, counseling, SAFEPLAN court and medical advocacy, HIV education and intervention, and supervised visitation. The YWCA provides services at several sites, including Holyoke, Northampton, Westfield, and our primary Springfield campus.

Position Purpose
The SHP Director ensures the daily operations of the YWCA's Supportive Housing Program, a 24-month residential program for survivors of domestic, sexual violence, dating violence, and/or stalking. The SHP Director plans, provides, facilitates, and/or coordinates services to 20 residential families. Working directly with residents, the SHP Director provides support, safety planning, crisis intervention, and housing navigation to move residents to permanent housing. The YWCA's Supportive Housing Program is grounded in survivor choice and housing first. Therefore, the SHP Director will provide supportive services to all residents.
The SHP Director oversees new residents' logistics, including working with Wayfinders, who administer program-based vouchers, to ensure residents have the proper paperwork. The SHP Director also manages leases, rent, property inspection, and building maintenance.
Lastly, the SHP Director builds and maintains a community partner network that encourages mutually beneficial referrals, creating a continuum of services for survivors. Established partners include local law enforcement, the Hampden County District Attorney's office, housing providers, daycare providers, and workforce development service providers.
Essential Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of daily program operations. Deliver case management, advocacy, housing navigation, and referrals for current and prospective residents of the YWCA’s Supportive Housing Program (SHP). Develop respectful, supportive, trauma-informed relationships with residents while mentoring participants on a range of topics, including, but not limited to, the following: tenant law, financial education, employment, housing, and self-care. Empower residents to create individualized goals and re-housing plans which support their ultimate transition to permanent housing using a housing-first, trauma-informed lens. Maintain relationships with project partners who provide supportive services and continue building new partnerships that best meet survivors’ needs. Respond to emergencies in the THP program as needed. Enroll and exit residents and their children in the YW’s data management system, AWARDS by Footholds Technology and maintain thorough, accurate, and timely resident records and files. Organize occupancy agreements and leases by collecting monthly rent and entering it into the YW’s finance system. Inspect the physical property and units as needed to ensure the building’s safety and submit work orders to the facilities department as needed. Work with residents to manage their MRVPs, including renewing their certification after one year in the program. Ensure children are enrolled in school and daycare programs. Assist residents in accessing transportation to aid them in stabilizing/meeting their basic needs and working towards their goals, including occasionally providing transportation. Contribute, as requested, to program reports and funding applications. Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred, with 3 years of experience as a property manager; Spanish language proficiency preferred; Experience with and knowledge of accessing housing, homelessness, social service, and other community-based resources; Experience with and knowledge of accessing resources within the community; Understanding of both interpersonal and structural racism and bias; Understanding of Low Income Housing Tax Credit compliance and landlord-side compliance rules with respect to the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program; Familiarity with property management systems / platforms; Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills, including strong computer skills; Access to reliable transportation and valid driver’s license; Must be able to be covered by the agency's transportation insurance policy; Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
