The Law Offices of Heywood G. Friedman is California’s premier law firm specializing in the defense of workers’ compensation, liability, and employment claims. We seek experienced attorneys to join our Workers' Compensation Defense Group to handle all aspects of workers' compensation claims under California law.
Our attorneys may work remotely (excluding in-person court appearances, depositions, meetings, etc. as required) or in-person at one of our California offices. The expected salary range for this position is $150,000—$250,000 per year, determined based on experience and other factors as permitted by law.
Key Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of WCAB litigation
Maintain consistent and meaningful communication with client representatives, including claims professionals, risk managers, and human resources executives
Prepare Initial Defense Analysis (IDA) for new case files
Assess claim exposure
Conduct depositions of applicants, percipient witnesses, and expert witnesses
Conduct QME evaluations
Appear for hearings and trials before the WCAB
Bring claims to prompt, cost-effective resolutions
Required Qualifications
Prior professional experience as a California workers’ compensation attorney (defense side highly preferred)
Member of the California State Bar in good standing
Ability to meet minimum billable hours requirement of 190 hours per month / 2280 hours per year
Ability to work in a paperless environment
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in MerusCase legal practice management software
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook
