Associate Teacher – Mary Stuart Gile Early Learning Center
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire is a dynamic organization that supports 200 staff working in 30 Early Childhood and Out of School Time programs with a large geographic footprint. We have a unique opening at the Mary Stuart Gile Early Learning Center on the campus of NHTI in Concord. As a laboratory school, the Mary Stuart Gile Early Learning Center is a demonstration setting for best practices in early childhood education, with student teachers working alongside staff in classrooms.
We are seeking energetic, organized, and experienced early childhood educators to help students grow in the field while providing high‑quality, emergent curriculum for young children. A full‑time Associate Teacher position is responsible for upholding and implementing the BGCCNNH mission, supporting children and teachers, and ensuring the health and safety of the children.
Responsibilities
Actively engage with children, assist with cleaning and organizing the classroom, and document child observations.
Respond sensitively to the interests, requests, and needs of individual children, interact positively, encourage exploration, and use positive guide‑ing strategies.
Plan and outline curriculum to meet the individual needs of youth, incorporating elements of an emergent curriculum.
Establish and maintain program goals to ensure the health and safety of all members.
Evaluate program effectiveness, track outcome metrics, and verify that activities respond to member needs and address gender and cultural diversity.
Use child observation notes as a tool for curriculum planning, keeping accurate and up‑to‑date records.
Account for the members in their assigned group by name and face; oversee implementation of NAEYC standards, GSQ (when applicable), Culture DNA code, BGCCNNH and CCCU rules and policies regarding safety, compliance, and best practices.
Administer medications, provide first aid as needed, and communicate all occurrences to families.
Assist in cleaning, organizing, and maintaining classroom well‑being and upkeep.
Oversee proper record‑keeping and weekly reporting, including activities and events, and provide data for input to a Center Director or other applicable staff.
Facilitate open and effective professional communication with families, staff, and children.
Supervise classroom staff, students, and volunteers; provide regular feedback on performance.
Support volunteers, practicum students, and staff through modeling techniques and strategies that connect theory to practice.
Lead planning meetings with the teaching team and increase the visibility of program activities through daily schedule postings, announcements, and social media channels.
Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Associate teacher qualified before November 6, 2017, with a minimum of 9 credits in related coursework or 1,000 hours of supervised child‑care experience in a licensed program, and knowledge of child growth and development obtained through one of the following:
Completion of a high school level 2‑year career and technical education course in teacher education;
A 3‑credit college course in child or human growth and development;
Thirty hours of training in child growth and development from an accredited college, university, or certified provider, or documented life experience with children.
18 years of age or older.
Knowledge of current methods, principles, and techniques of teaching.
Knowledge of curriculum development and application.
Ability to plan and implement quality programs; proven track record of creative and artistic teaching strategies.
Ability to form developmentally appropriate relationships with children and promote positive behavior.
Ability to motivate members and manage behavior problems with patience.
Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
Excellent communication skills with staff, families, and community members.
Willingness to maintain the club dress code and adapt to different learning styles.
Must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications per Bureau of Childcare licensing requirements.
May be required to drive the club van or short bus periodically; safe driving record required.
Must assist in cleaning and organizing the club, maintain confidentiality, and be willing to travel between locations when requested (occasional).
Additional Expectations
Candidate must submit to a federal FBI fingerprint background check and a New Hampshire Criminal Records background check through FirstAdvantage.
The State of NH Childcare Licensing Bureau may prohibit employment if a disqualifying criminal record is found.
The organization has a zero‑tolerance policy for abuse and will not tolerate mistreatment or abuse; violations will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
