Summary
The Accounting Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP standards and maintaining compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
Manage monthly financial close and reporting for approval by the CFO
Record daily revenue recognition including cash deposits and merchant account activity. Ensure timely cash bank deposits to minimize cash on hand.
Ensure invoices are paid timely and coded properly
Record expense accruals, as necessary
Assist in preparing monthly financial statements
Reconcile balance sheet accounts to the general ledger
Liaison with Development Department to ensure donations and grants are properly recorded. Reconcile the donor database to financial records
Support the CFO in the annual audit and tax reporting process. Manage financial audit and tax preparation information requests and schedules from external auditors and tax advisors
Evaluate existing processes and make recommendations, where appropriate, to automate and/or streamline to improve efficiency and reduce paper processing
Stay abreast of emerging trends in accounting, finance and technology to improve Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) effectiveness in saving the lives of homeless pets
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field, preferred
Five (5) years of experience in an accounting environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Non-profit accounting experience preferred
Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles; familiarity with non-profit accounting preferred
General familiarity with computers, Windows software, and peripherals
Proficiency with financial accounting systems; knowledge of Quickbooks Online a plus
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word
Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills
Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
Ability to adapt to changing work demands and procedures
Knowledge and support of the HSNT mission, policies, and protocols
Represent HSNT in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff
