About the Role How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Senior Engineering Manager for CommTech in our Fremont office you will play a crucial role in New Product Introduction (NPI) and Revenue Generating Projects within our Battlespace and Spectrum Monitoring Systems (SMS) markets.

You will join a small dynamic team who develop cutting‑edge products. Off the back of numerous strong years of performance and growth you will be joining at an exciting time for CommTech and taking on a senior role with a chance to influence our success going forwards. As Senior Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading a large percentage of the Engineering team and ensuring we deliver on our key initiatives. You will be process oriented and experienced in managing teams involved in New Product Development, Revenue Generating Projects and Sustaining Engineering.

Managing a technical team responsible for embedded SW development, firmware development, user interface development, RF and Antenna Development and systems engineering, you will own resource planning and staffing to meet current and projected department workload along with driving processes and procedures in support of the Director, Engineering.

Job Responsibilities

Partner with the Director of Engineering to drive success across key initiatives and CommTech KPIs. This includes providing strategic input, execution, and performance reporting to keep initiatives aligned and moving forward.

Lead resource planning and staffing for current and upcoming projects, including the development and application of tools to assess staffing adequacy and availability against projected workloads. Support the Director of Engineering in evaluating project viability and scheduling decisions to ensure timely and effective execution.

Support the Director, Engineering in implementing and enforcing processes and procedures to drive consistency and quality. This includes New Product Development, Testing and Release, Engineering Change Control and Issue/Bug Tracking.

Interface with internal stakeholders to ensure Engineering meets our commitments to the wider business, such as sustaining and maintenance Engineering.

Provide a strategic on‑site engineering presence in the Fremont office, partnering with the CTO, Director of Engineering, and Chief Engineer to streamline communication, support technical decision‑making, and foster team alignment.

Provide line management for Senior Engineers and Engineering Group Leaders, offering strategic guidance, mentorship, and support to direct reports in their team leadership roles.

Supporting the Director, Engineering with input into planning (resource and budget) and reporting.

Contribute to technical input on the design and development of new products, ensuring alignment with engineering best practices, performance requirements, and innovation goals.

Qualifications Required Experience & Education

MSEE or MSCS with emphasis on RF communication systems. MBA (or equivalent) would be helpful.

5+ years’ experience in RF based system level engineering with exposure to both hardware and software components. Knowledge of SW development processes (such as Agile) as well as knowledge of system testing techniques is needed.

5+ years of increasing management responsibility including technical leadership, staffing, project management and customer facing interaction.

Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident or U.K. citizen.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Process oriented with proven track record of effectively managing teams and consistently delivering measurable outcomes.

Ability to communicate complex technical subjects to colleagues and customers who lack a strong technical background.

Strong technical writing and presentation skills.

Ability to work collaboratively, cross‑functional and geographically distributed teams to investigate and solve technical and business problems.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with multiple projects running concurrently.

Key leader and presence in the Fremont Office will require time in our Fremont, California office.
