Application Engineer

A2LA accredited Metrology Lab.
Position Summary The Application Engineer is a key contributor within IIA’s Metrology Lab, responsible for delivering high-quality engineering services to clients. This role involves operating advanced measurement technologies such as CT and laser scanning systems, preparing detailed project quotes, and executing complex projects including reverse engineering, inspection, and modeling. The engineer serves as a technical liaison, fostering strong client relationships. Success in this role requires a blend of technical expertise, customer-facing communication skills, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement and innovation in metrology services.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver exceptional service to Engineering Services clients, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of projects.
Operate and maintain lab measurement equipment, including CT and laser scanning systems.
Prepare detailed quotes for Engineering Services customer requests and manage project scopes.
Execute projects involving CAV, reverse engineering, inspection, and modeling.
Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a technical liaison.
Ensure all equipment is maintained in proper working condition. Monitor and schedule equipment maintenance, calibration, and repairs.
Contribute to departmental profitability and recommend training or improvements.
Stay current with industry trends and recommend enhancements to service offerings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering ; technical degree required.
Experience
5+ years in manufacturing (e.g., injection molding, machining, additive manufacturing).
Proficiency in 3D metrology and model-based inspection using structured light, laser, CT scanning, real-time x-ray, or measuring arms.
Strong understanding of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standard – experience reading, interpreting, and applying.
Experience with 3D digital scanners, point clouds, digital modeling, and reverse engineering.
Skilled in CAD-based digital engineering software and tools (e.g., SolidWorks, PolyWorks, VG Studio Max, Bluebeam).
Customer-facing experience, including quoting and technical communication.
Skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Certifications Certifications: NDT Level 2 or 3 Computed Tomography (CT) and Radiography (Rad) certification strongly.
U.S. Citizenship required.
