Keck Medicine of USC is seeking a collaborative and visionary physician leader to serve as its Associate Chief Medical Informatics Officer (ACMIO). This role offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation at the intersection of clinical care and health information technology within a leading academic health system.
The ACMIO will report directly to the Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) and have a dotted line to a clinical chair within the Keck School of Medicine. This hybrid position requires at least four days per week dedicated to informatics responsibilities, with the remaining day available for clinical duties or other activities within the Keck School of Medicine, as coordinated with leadership.
Education, Qualifications, and Responsibilities:
Candidates must hold an MD or DO degree and be licensed or eligible for licensure in California. Board certification in an ACGME-recognized specialty is required; certification in Clinical Informatics or an advanced degree such as an MBA, MPH, MHA, or MMM is preferred.
The ACMIO will provide informatics leadership across Keck Medicine of USC facilities, supporting digital transformation efforts, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals and clinical workflows. The role involves fostering relationships across departments, promoting provider engagement, and advancing clinical decision support tools, data analytics, and IT solutions to enhance patient care.
The candidate should have at least four years of progressive leadership experience as a physician leader, with recent clinical practice preferred. Deep understanding of medical informatics, clinical systems implementation, and change management is essential. Familiarity with health IT trends, tools, and best practices, especially with electronic medical records across multiple facilities, is required.
Experience in quality improvement, outcomes management, and organizational change is critical. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to engage a wide range of stakeholders, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, IT staff, and administrators. Cerner / Oracle Health experience is preferred.
The ACMIO will participate in advisory groups, support education and training, and foster collaboration across departments. This role requires a mission-driven leader committed to high ethical standards, teamwork, and shaping the future of care delivery at Keck Medicine of USC.
The annual salary range will be determined based on experience and other factors during the hiring process.
Education
MD or DO degree
Minimum Experience / Knowledge
At least 4 years of leadership experience as a physician leader
Active clinical practice preferred within the last few months
Experience with medical informatics, clinical systems implementation, and process redesign
Familiarity with health IT products and trends
Practical experience in health IT system design, implementation, and optimization
Experience in quality and performance improvement
Leadership experience in organizational change, especially with electronic medical records across multiple facilities
Excellent interpersonal skills to engage diverse clinical and non-clinical staff
Strong communication skills for decision-making and stakeholder engagement
Cerner / Oracle Health experience preferred
Licenses / Certifications
Medical license in California or eligibility to obtain one within days
Board certification in an ACGME-recognized specialty
Board certification in Clinical Informatics or related advanced degree preferred
Accountabilities
Report primarily to the CMIO with a dotted line to a Keck School of Medicine clinical chair
Work at least 4 days per week on informatics activities; remaining time for clinical duties or other activities
This is a hybrid role with in-person and remote work options
Provide clinical informatics services across Keck Medicine facilities
Uphold high ethical standards, lead collaboratively, and represent provider and patient interests
Promote system thinking, active listening, and respectful responses
Leverage clinical data and presentation skills to foster teamwork and collaboration
Lead advisory groups, build trust, and support education and training efforts
Drive clinical transformation through advanced use of information and technology

Support training initiatives and peer support for clinicians
Collaborate with hospital, medical school, and community practice leaders
