Team & Role

The UpToDate Expert AI team is a cross-functional group of designers, researchers, engineers, and clinicians working at the forefront of healthcare innovation. We're building our flagship application, UpToDate Expert AI, to redefine how clinical knowledge is accessed and applied at the point of care. Our team thrives on collaboration, curiosity, and a shared mission to empower clinicians with intelligent, intuitive tools that improve patient outcomes. You will help lead the effort to foster a mobile-first design culture as we expand Expert AI's capabilities and refresh our UpToDate core application on mobile web, iOS, and Android.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy:

Understand business goals, user needs, and technical capabilities to inform the research and design of holistic and integrated solutions

Foster collaborative relationships with product, clinical, and technology teams

Advocate for the user throughout the product development process, working with cross-functional teams to ensure a consistent and excellent user experience that is validated by customers

Lead/co-lead visioning workshops with multidisciplinary teams of business, technology, clinical, and user experience roles to shape strategic plans

Design:

Translate ideas into concepts, user flows, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences for products in the UpToDate portfolio

Work with cross-functional teams to define, improve and implement UX research, and design best practices and processes

Work directly with development groups to ensure accurate implementation of designs

Manage multiple projects at various stages and prioritize tasks

Research:

Identify research opportunities and appropriate research methods based on business objectives

Develop research plans collaboratively with the Product Manager and other team members

Deliver actionable insights that are well-reasoned and presented with a high degree of quality

Job Qualifications

10 years of experience working as a UX designer - ideally within an agile environment

Bachelor's degree (BA) from a four-year college or university (or equivalent) in Interaction Design, Product Design, Industrial Design, Human Computer Interaction, Communication & Multimedia Design/Media Technology, Information Architecture or related field

Agency experience is highly preferred

Familiar with principles of Lean Product and Lean UX

Have a deep understanding of typography, color, layout and motion design principles

Passionate about design, emerging technologies and problem solving

Strong understanding of the healthcare ecosystem, particularly in payer and provider sectors and experience offerings preferred

Hands-on experience building mobile web and native apps

Both a self-starter and team-oriented, with a willingness to teach and learn; open to feedback and welcomes constructive criticism

Excellent English verbal and written communication skills

Ability to build trusted relationships and act as a liaison among the UX, product, clinical, and technology teams to ensure standards of excellence are met

Experience working in distributed, collaborative teams

Ability to work with limited guidance and make decisions independently is a must

Technical Skills

Experience working with design systems and familiar with creating UX patterns

Experience adhering to WCAG compliance and standards

Mastered design software such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite

Knowledge of agile software development processes and experience with requirements management and complex projects

Solid understanding of HTML5 and CSS3

Your Portfolio

Your portfolio should demonstratea track record of developing useful and intuitive interfaces for complex mobile applications

You should be prepared to speak about the processes used to develop your solutions and the specific role that you played in these processes
