Dean of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (COA) – Overview
The Dean provides leadership in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs. The role ensures compliance with laws, regulations, and funding requirements and supports student success and community engagement. Key Responsibilities
Plan, implement, and coordinate instructional program development. Lead efforts to develop community partnerships and build pathways from high school and other organizations. Develop, supervise departmental and programmatic budgets. Participate in hiring and evaluation of faculty and staff for the division. Assign teaching loads and supervise curricular design. Initiate class scheduling and conduct enrollment management activities. Maintain accreditation standards and advance innovation in higher education. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree from an accredited institution. One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience related to the assignment. Proficiency in using office productivity software and the Internet. Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds. Desirable Qualifications
Three or more years of teaching experience at the lower‑division level. Experience developing academic programs, curriculum, and grants. Knowledge of state and federal laws, Title 5, Education Code, and related policies. Budget development and reporting experience. Four years of comprehensive, responsible management experience in instruction. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in student services technology. Commitment to participatory governance processes. Strong organizational, communication, and public relations skills. Benefits Information
