POLICE OFFICER - JOHNS HOPKINS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Police Officers . Police Officers work in a team environment with integrity, professionalism, humanity and courage to protect the lives and property of the Johns Hopkins community. Officers provide campus police services to the Homewood Campus, East Baltimore Campus and Peabody Campus where assigned. They will ensure JHPD is a leader in the provision of responsive, quality and customer service-oriented policing.
Responsibilities
Represent the JHPD’s vision, mission and values when interacting with university and community stakeholders; coordinate JHPD resources and activities under supervision to address concerns about university and community issues.
Provide the full level of law enforcement work; enforce laws, rules and regulations governing safety and protection of people, property and facilities; perform problem-solving projects to enhance safety and reduce harm.
Implement patrol priorities and community policing strategies; patrol designated areas by vehicle, bicycle and foot; identify safety hazards and report violations and unusual conditions.
Maintain a visible presence; develop positive rapport with students, faculty, staff and community members to deter crime.
Respond to calls for assistance and emergencies; de-escalate situations and coordinate with appropriate response levels to ensure safety.
Coordinate with Campus Safety and Security Command Staff on investigations of complaints and incidents; conduct investigations as assigned.
Direct traffic and assist with crowd control; provide public safety information and conduct safety programs.
Participate in specialized unit activities (criminal investigations, crime prevention, etc.) as assigned; inspect and maintain equipment and clothing; operate law enforcement equipment.
Perform or assist with collection and preservation of evidence; assist with serving warrants and summonses; prepare cases for court and testify when necessary.
Collaborate with local and state law enforcement agencies as needed; perform office duties as required (phones, dispatch, parking permits, general information).
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Must be at least 20 ½ years of age.
Conditions of Employment
Employees must successfully complete a training academy and maintain certification as specified by MPCTC; may be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing; one-year probationary period after MPCTC training.
Other : Certification as a sworn Police Officer recognized by MPCTC and valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license. Clery Act campus security authority (CSA) requirements apply.
Requirements
Must be a US citizen or permanent resident who is an honorably discharged veteran and has an active citizenship application pending; must provide supporting documents.
Must not have a felony conviction.
Must demonstrate physical ability to perform the job; work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, on-call, and as needed.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Successful completion of written exam and oral interview; no record of serious disciplinary actions if prior law enforcement experience.
*Finalists will undergo a comprehensive background check, medical exam, drug test, polygraph and psychological evaluation.

CITY RESIDENCY: 20% increase for Baltimore City residents
Starting Salary: $70,000; Schedule: 12-hour shifts; Location: JHU Homewood, Peabody and East Baltimore.
