Job Summary As an Animal Care Associate, you will support animal care and health monitoring within a controlled environment. This role involves daily interaction with lab animals (mice and rats), data input using tablets, and hands-on tasks such as feeding, bedding, and health checks.
Key Responsibilities Provide daily care including food, water, bedding, and enrichment Monitor and document the health and environment of rodents (mice and rats) Handle animals for genetic sampling, tagging, and basic medical checks Scan isolator cages using a tablet; follow specific instructions generated per cage Maintain and manage rodent colonies (setting up matings, weaning, sexing, etc.) Follow biosecurity protocols to maintain isolator integrity Enter accurate records into internal database systems Adhere to safety, sanitation, and ethical standards Support general housekeeping and facility upkeep
Work Environment Animals are housed in isolators (clear enclosed environments) Full PPE is required for most of the shift Work is performed in a clean, controlled, and regulated environment
Preferred Backgrounds Medical/hospital experience Veterinary or farm animal care Hospitality (e.g., servers with high attention to detail)
Pet Ownership Policy To protect the health and safety of animals in the facility, employees cannot own or come in regular contact ***** Common lab *****
mice, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, gerbils, non-human primates Related wild *****
chinchillas, squirrels, skunks, hedgehogs, deer mice, possums Animals that are fed any of the above *****
