SDOT is seeking a dynamic and collaborative professional for a temporary, three-year term-limited position as Training Coordinator (Strategic Advisor 1) to support our Capital Project Delivery (CPD) Portfolio in the development and launch of an internal staff training program. This training program is a key investment in our workforce and will strengthen consistency in project delivery processes, alignment with industry best practices, and overall efficiency, ensuring responsible stewardship of public funds. The training curriculum will be developed through a combination of in-house expertise and consultant support and will cover a wide range of technical and planning topics, including cost-estimating, project scoping, neighborhood planning, traffic engineering, and more.
We are seeking a strategic, organized, and curious professional with a strong understanding of transportation infrastructure and the capital delivery process. Candidates do not need to be technical experts. Instead, the ideal candidate is a skilled generalist who can synthesize complex technical information and collaborate with subject matter experts to shape training content.
You Will Play a Role In
Designing, launching, and managing a comprehensive staff training program for capital project delivery. Facilitating collaboration between internal subject matter experts, department leadership, managers, and external consultants. Translating technical processes and policies into accessible, practical training material.
Job Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain a three-year strategic work plan for the CPD Portfolio Training Program, including key milestones, stage gates, and long-term ownership and hand-off framework. Coordinate technical tools and platforms to support a wide range of training formats, delivery methods, trainers, and frequencies; this includes managing logistics through the City of Seattle’s internal training registration software Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) across the portfolio, capture and translate expertise into structured, effective training content Prepare and deliver regular updates and briefings to department leadership on program progress, milestones, and implementation Use data and performance metrics to inform program design and continuous improvement Ensure alignment of training content with SDOT’s capital project delivery protocols and industry best practices, including assessment of training gaps through research and interviews Support change management and internal communications to facilitate understanding and relevance of the training program Foster strong working relationships across the CPD Portfolio to ensure alignment and engagement Manage consultant contracts and manage scope, budget, and deliverables
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Three - Five (3-5) years’ experience in program development, project coordination, capital project delivery, or designing and implementing training programs; and a bachelor’s degree in public administration, public policy, urban planning, business or a related field (or a combination of education, training, and/or lived or professional experience that provides an equivalent background to succeed in the role). Strong communication skills, including writing, facilitating, and presenting in professional settings. Confidence working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and the ability to make complex information easier to understand. Familiarity with infrastructure or capital project delivery work, or experience in a related field where you’ve supported technical teams or translated complex information for broader audiences. A commitment to equity, inclusion, and public service. A proven track record of taking initiative, following through, and adapting to new challenges.
Though not requirements, strong candidates will have some of the following experience or are able to describe comparable experience:
Ability to design and manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders, shifting priorities, and evolving goals. Skill in synthesizing technical or specialized content into accessible formats for a wide range of audiences. Experience navigating complex organizations and building relationships across teams and roles. Demonstrated understanding of, or interest in learning about, capital project delivery processes, public policy, transportation infrastructure, and related technical fields. The ideal candidate has experience in one or more of the following areas: coaching, training, facilitation, communications, or team management.

The City’s full salary range for this job classification is $50.08 - $75.12hourly. The salary for this position has been identified at $61.62 - $73.27 hourly.
