Job Summary
A material handler is responsible for the physical handling, movement, and storage of goods within a warehouse, distribution center, or manufacturing facility. They ensure materials are organized, tracked, and delivered to the correct locations in a timely manner, contributing to the overall efficiency of the operation.
Key Responsibilities
Loading & Unloading: Safely load and unload incoming shipments from trucks and other vehicles, often using forklifts, pallet jacks, or hand trucks.
Material Storage: Place received materials in their designated storage areas, ensuring they are organized and accessible.
Order Fulfillment: Pick and pack materials to fulfill orders for customers or production, preparing them for shipment.
Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory records by counting incoming shipments, conducting cycle counts, and monitoring stock levels.
Equipment Operation: Operate various warehouse equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and handheld scanners, to move and track materials efficiently.
Safety & Cleanliness: Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines, and keep work areas, including loading docks, clean and clear of debris.
Skills & Qualifications
Physical Abilities: Ability to lift and move heavy items (up to 50 lbs.), stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities to manage inventory and maintain a structured warehouse environment.
Technical Skills: Basic computer skills for data entry into inventory management systems and the ability to use scanners.
Teamwork:
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with supervisors and colleagues.
