We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to provide enterprise-level database management, security, and performance optimization in a hybrid on-premises and cloud environment. The Database Administrator will play a key role in designing, installing, maintaining, and securing critical database systems, ensuring operational resilience, compliance, and performance across diverse enterprise infrastructures.
The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with database technologies, cybersecurity integration, and federal compliance standards. This position requires strong technical and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and support mission-critical systems in a secure and compliant environment.
Responsibilities
Design, configure, and maintain enterprise database systems across hybrid environments (on-premises and cloud).
Perform installation, upgrades, patching, and migration of databases, ensuring data integrity, security, and performance.
Support and manage common database platforms such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and cloud-native database services.
Implement database security controls aligned with enterprise cybersecurity policies and federal frameworks, including FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-92, OMB M-21-31, and CDM.
Develop and maintain database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies, ensuring business continuity and data protection.
Monitor and optimize database performance, identifying and resolving configuration, query, and resource issues.
Collaborate with infrastructure and security teams to integrate database logging, auditing, and alerting into SIEM and monitoring platforms.
Support database security hardening for both on-premises and cloud-hosted systems, including vulnerability assessments and configuration compliance checks.
Assist with cloud migrations and security posture improvements for databases deployed in AWS, Azure, and O365 environments.
Provide technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and compliance reporting to support audits and governance activities.
Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex databases and security concepts into actionable recommendations.
Coordinate with third-party vendors and cross-functional teams to implement upgrades, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability of database services.
Experience
Minimum 5+ years of experience designing, installing, maintaining, and supporting databases for enterprise IT systems in hybrid (on-premises and cloud) environments.
At least 2+ years of experience directly related to cybersecurity and secure database administration.
Experience supporting, maintaining, and upgrading common database platforms (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
Hands-on experience with federal cybersecurity compliance frameworks, including FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-92, OMB M-21-31, and CDM.
Strong understanding of cloud database architectures, migration strategies, and security hardening techniques (AWS, Azure, O365).
Experience with database auditing, encryption, access control, and vulnerability management.
Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning.
Familiarity with DevSecOps principles, integrating database changes securely within CI/CD pipelines.
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities for identifying root causes of database and security issues.
Experience developing and implementing solutions for performance, security, and compliance challenges.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex security and database concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Proven ability to collaborate with third-party vendors, security operations centers (CSOCs), and cross-functional teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (preferred).
Current government security clearance: Public Trust.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Database – Specialty, or CISSP.
Experience automating database administration tasks using Python, PowerShell, or Bash scripting.
Familiarity with database activity monitoring (DAM), data loss prevention (DLP), and data classification tools.
Prior experience supporting federal agencies or large-scale enterprise database environments.
