Essential Job Duties

Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional? We invite you to bring your expertise to NC State’s Facilities Division as an Accounting Technician. In the Budget and Accounting Department you will support Capital Project Management by ensuring accuracy, compliance, and financial transparency for university infrastructure projects. You will assist with managing the financial processes for both capital and non-capital projects, from requisitions and invoices to reconciliation and reporting.

You will collaborate with project managers, vendors, and internal departments, promoting Communication, Collaboration, and Coordination.

Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage requisitions, purchase orders, and voucher requests for all capital (CI) and non-CI projects
  • Process invoices and pay applications in a timely and accurate manner
  • Update and maintain financial records in CAPS, PeopleSoft, AERES, spreadsheets, and Interscope
  • Assist with financial system updates, testing, and providing user feedback
  • Create project numbers and help manage filing and distribution of project documentation
  • Review and approve vouchers, requisitions, journal vouchers (JVs), and internal departmental transfers (IDTs)
  • Track OESAD usage and expenditures by fiscal year; prepare and submit reports as required
  • Respond to financial inquiries from vendors, project managers, and internal departments
  • Maintain detailed and accurate accounting records; reconcile accounts and verify ledger entries
  • Ensure compliance with university and state policies by using tools such as PeopleSoft, Wolf Reports, UNC-GA, OSBM, and SCO guidelines

Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education: High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with financial and accounting systems, such as PeopleSoft, CAPS, AERES, WolfReports, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in processing financial transactions and maintaining records.
  • Demonstrated experience in accounting, budget management, and financial reporting within a complex organization.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with vendors, project managers, and internal departments.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
