Position Overview

Job Title: Accounting Manager

Reports to: Controller

Position Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounting Manager to join our finance team. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, overseeing monthly and annual close processes, preparing key reports for internal and external stakeholders, and driving process improvements. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement and financial transparency.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with various internal and external financial reporting requirements, including compliance with debt covenants and preparation of property renditions.
  • Direct and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial statements.
  • Record and reconcile payroll, employee reimbursements, business expenses, accruals, intercompany transfers, and interest income or expense.
  • Review and distribute monthly budget vs. actual reports for ongoing projects, identifying key variances and collaborating with departments for resolution.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly Excel-based accounting reports with key performance indicators (KPIs) to Senior Management.
  • Generate and analyze financial reports, including the monthly bank balance report and treasury status updates (e.g., cash on hand, projections).
  • Apply cash receipts accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Enter and reconcile client invoices in the ERP system; provide estimates and support accurate and timely billing.
  • Pay vendors and employees as applicable, ensuring proper documentation and approval processes.
  • Collaborate with the billing team to ensure proper revenue recognition and invoicing aligned with contractual terms.
  • Support and manage core accounting functions, including general ledger, billing, cash applications, and accounts payable.
  • Prepare and maintain supporting schedules and documentation for the annual financial review with external CPA firm.
  • Produce reports for business-related taxes such as unsecured property tax and gross receipts tax.
  • Record month-end and year-end adjusting journal entries in collaboration with the Controller.
  • Contribute to the planning, streamlining, and integration of future accounting and operational software systems.
  • Promote continuous improvement by identifying inefficiencies and recommending enhanced processes, systems, and controls.
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, internal controls, and adherence to GAAP standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or multi-entity environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage 100 Contractor or similar); proficiency with MS Power BI reporting and dashboards is a plus.
  • Prior payroll experience (prevailing wage and certified payroll) is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of construction contracts, budgets, and administration.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and concisely.
  • Conduct a background check, drug screening, and physical exam.

Working Conditions

Environmental Factors: Indoor conditions. Noise level is usually moderate. Physical demands include typical office activities with occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
