Head of Underwriting Excellence
Location: Scottsdale, Atlanta, New York City, Chicago
Ategrity Specialty Insurance Company specializes in property, casualty, management liability and professional liability insurance, with a strong emphasis on the excess and surplus (E&S) lines market. Our aim is to establish ourselves as the premier E&S carrier by leveraging robust technical underwriting, intelligent operational efficiencies, sound risk management, and intensive specialization.
Role We’re seeking a highly motivated individual to deliver a best-in-class underwriting controls framework, drive impactful underwriter training and development, and champion process improvements. This role requires a proactive leader who can think strategically and execute effectively. As a key member of the Underwriting Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Head of Risk Management, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of underwriting at Ategrity.
Responsibilities
Work with the business and underwriting functions to develop and maintain effective processes, policies, procedures, protocols, and controls to ensure underwriting effectiveness.
Deliver holistic underwriting controls solutions to scale the business’s risk management practices and drive progressive implementation of common systems, working practices, service levels, and procedures.
Implement process change resulting from regulatory change, strategic decisions, or adoption of best practices.
Reduce requirements on underwriting management for key underwriting controls, including guidelines, underwriting reviews, authority, and premium audits.
Recommend improvements to other areas such as data, pricing, and exposure management to contribute to overall effectiveness.
Underwriting Training and Development
Create an intuitive development and support model that equips underwriting talent with knowledge and information to respond quickly to the market and make risk decisions within authority levels and risk appetite.
Drive the development of authority controls, associated manuals, and job aids to manage authority levels and positively engage underwriting talent.
Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of underwriting or compliance experience in P&C insurance, preferably for an E&S carrier.
Demonstrated ability to drive underwriting quality success and coordinate multiple tasks to deliver on time.
In-depth knowledge of appropriate procedures and controls for our business’s nature, scale, and complexity.
Track record of getting others to execute efficiently toward a common goal.
Ability to communicate using data and logic to influence key decisions and act strategically.
Experience in corporate governance and controls management with exposure to a wide variety of systems.
Well organized with relentless attention to detail.
B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited college or university.
