confidential search
for a strategic, results-driven
Chief Development Officer (CDO)
to lead its comprehensive fundraising program. The organization serves a diverse population and is experiencing significant momentum in both community impact and philanthropic support.
Position Summary The Chief Development Officer will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team and oversee all aspects of the organization's fundraising strategy and execution. This includes individual giving, major gifts, institutional partnerships (foundations and corporations), special campaigns, and events.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and inspiring leader who can build and manage a high-performing team, while personally cultivating and stewarding high-value donor relationships. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with organizational goals.
Provide strategic counsel to the CEO and Board of Directors on all matters related to development.
Establish fundraising goals, metrics, and reporting systems to track progress and inform decision-making.
Donor & Fund Development
Build and manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects; personally solicit gifts and steward relationships.
Oversee foundation and corporate giving programs, including grant strategy and reporting.
Lead planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, special events, and donor engagement activities.
Leverage storytelling, impact data, and brand alignment to deepen donor commitment.
Team & Board Collaboration
Lead, support, and grow a development team of professionals focused on diverse fundraising streams.
Partner with program, marketing, and finance teams to ensure alignment of messaging and reporting.
Collaborate with the Board of Directors and Development Committee to enhance their fundraising effectiveness.
Qualifications
Minimum 8 years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience, with 3+ years in a leadership role.
Proven success securing major gifts and managing donor pipelines.
Strong leadership, team-building, and communication skills.
Knowledge of Los Angeles' philanthropic landscape is strongly preferred.
Experience with donor databases/CRMs (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce, Bloomerang).
Passion for social impact and alignment with the mission-driven values of the organization.
