The Chief Development Officer is a visionary and strategic leader responsible for designing and executing the National Psoriasis Foundation’s revenue generation strategy. Reporting directly to the President & CEO and serving as a key member of the Executive Team, the Chief Development Officer will lead a development team of 12–15 staff while cultivating new partnerships across corporate, philanthropic, and business sectors. The Chief Development Officer will drive multi-channel fundraising and identify new business models, revenue opportunities, and strategic alliances that will position the Foundation for long-term financial sustainability and national influence. The ideal leader will bring a proven track record of closing high-value philanthropic gifts and business partnerships, drawing from experience beyond traditional patient advocacy. Major Duties and Responsibilities
Design and lead an ambitious, future-focused fundraising growth strategy that includes major gifts, annual and legacy giving, community building events, corporate partnerships, foundation support, government grants, and emerging revenue streams. Prioritize closing 6- and 7-figure gifts and cultivating multi-year strategic partnerships with corporations, healthcare, technology, and lifestyle sectors. Build and steward a robust pipeline of funders and partners aligned with the Foundation’s strategic priorities, mission, and values. Personally cultivate and steward key donor and partner relationships, including high-net-worth individuals, foundations, healthcare executives, and foundation leaders. Create a road map and growth strategy, identifying new revenue streams, evaluating, and accelerating business transformation opportunities. Collaborate with mission, finance, and communications teams to align revenue efforts with impact outcomes and strategic growth plans. Serve as a trusted thought partner to the President & CEO and Executive Team on organizational strategy, growth, and mission alignment. Lead the annual planning and budgeting process for the Development function. Represent the Foundation at major external events, donor forums, and strategic convenings. Strategic Partnerships & Innovation
Identify and cultivate cross-sector partnerships with corporations, healthcare, retail, consumer health, and technology sectors, leveraging innovative collaborations that expand NPF’s reach, elevate visibility, and position the Foundation as a hub for chronic disease innovation. Promote an organizational culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and data-driven decision-making. Identify and develop strategic partnerships that expand reach and drive scalable growth. Board Engagement
Develop and implement strategies to optimize board engagement, including advancing board member contributions and embracing their ambassador role. Partner closely with the President & CEO and board to solicit major gifts and develop tailored proposals in alignment with donors’ interests as well as organizational priorities. Provide regular updates on fundraising progress and challenges and make recommendations for course correction as needed. Development Operations & Team Leadership
Mentor, empower, and promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning within the development team. Modernize fundraising systems, tools, and processes to support scale and sustainability. Foster a data-driven culture that values performance metrics and donor stewardship. Ensure top-quality proposal development, grant reporting, and prospect tracking systems. Monitor pipeline health, forecast revenue trends, and adjust strategy accordingly. Required Skills and Experience
Minimum 10 years of senior development, business development, or external affairs experience with proven revenue growth across diverse funding streams. Proven track record of securing transformational 6- and 7-figure gifts and high-value corporate collaborations, co-branded initiatives, or licensing agreements. Experience outside the traditional nonprofit or patient advocacy world strongly preferred, particularly in corporate partnerships, business development, or entrepreneurial revenue-generating roles. Demonstrated success in designing and leading innovative development strategies, including corporate partnerships and alternative revenue models. Reputation as a champion of change with an action-oriented approach. Must think big-picture while operating tactically. Experience leading complex initiatives across multiple business units and remote workforces. Deep understanding of fundraising technology and data-informed decision-making. Exceptional relationship-building and storytelling skills across diverse audiences including donors, C-suite leaders, and community partners. Experience leading and growing inclusive teams with a commitment to professional development, mentorship, and equity. Strong general management background with experience owning P&L. Inspirational, hands-on leader adaptable to the pace and ambiguity of high-growth environments. Specifications for Physical Requirements
Frequent travel for funder meetings and events. Extended periods working at a computer. About the National Psoriasis Foundation
The National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) is a bold, forward-looking organization that’s redefining what’s possible in health nonprofit leadership. Representing the more than 8 million Americans living with psoriatic disease, we are driven by two clear goals: to cure psoriatic disease and to improve the health of those living with it today. We operate at the intersection of science, innovation, and impact — funding breakthrough research, leading national policy change, and connecting individuals to the care and community they need. NPF’s current five-year strategic plan, reflects our commitment to doing big things: accelerating discovery, driving collaboration across sectors, and building a future where chronic disease is understood, treated early, and ultimately prevented. Our senior leadership team is dynamic, collaborative, and entrepreneurial. We prize strategic thinking, creativity, and a bias toward action. We are nimble but ambitious — a “small but mighty” organization that punches far above its weight through smart partnerships and a culture of excellence. At NPF, you’ll join a mission-driven team that’s nationally respected and deeply human — one that leads with purpose, values results, and celebrates innovation. If you’re looking to bring your business acumen, creativity, and relationship-building skills to a cause with national visibility and life-changing impact, this is the place to do it.
