Job Overview
The Scientific Support Engineer enables NIMH laboratory operations by translating research requirements into secure, reliable computing solutions. This full‑time position is performed both on‑site at the NIH Main Campus, 9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20892, and remotely, with core hours Monday‑Friday: 6:30 AM – 6:00 PM EST.
Responsibilities
Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments. Integrate instruments and analysis workflows, maintaining stable operations across audiovisual systems, virtualization platforms, networking, and VoIP. Support peripherals including multifunction devices and large‑format printers to ensure researchers can work efficiently. Maintain system configuration, monitoring, and optimization using ITB’s system‑management tools.
Required Qualifications
4+ years of relevant experience, ideally with the NIH or another scientific organization. BS/MS/PhD in Engineering, Applied Science, or another relevant field. Familiarity with supporting scientific research methods and tools. Subject‑matter expertise with Windows, macOS, and Linux enterprise computing and ITB’s system‑management tools. Expertise with the ServiceNow platform and associated tools and processes. Familiarity with AV equipment, virtualization platforms, networking, VoIP, MFDs, and large‑format printers.
Salary Range
$80,000 to $90,000
