Role Summary This hands‑on Field Service Technician will support Rivian vehicle repairs. The role requires a collaborative, team‑oriented individual capable of working in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment. Although based in a primary location, it may require remote work or travel to production plants and other sites to provide vehicle support as business needs demand. Candidates will be assessed against the full spectrum of required skills to determine appropriate level of expertise.
Responsibilities
Perform or assist with assigned vehicle diagnosis, repairs, installations, and inspections, at a service center or in the field directly at customer homes, businesses, or other convenient locations.
Identify and explain the Rivian product line, EV framework, tools, and accessories.
Utilize technical resources to follow Rivian repair procedures efficiently without compromising quality or safety.
Conduct road tests to ensure the quality of repairs.
Manage parts operations, including ordering, receiving, shipping, and inventory.
Identify areas of improvement and provide feedback to senior technicians or leadership.
Support service campaigns and containment initiatives.
Ensure all work and technical notes are properly documented for internal and external use.
Work collaboratively with a team spirit and maintain high‑quality work with minimal supervision.
Communicate with a high level of professionalism in customer‑facing situations.
Stay current with technical skills and complete required training.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
Proficient with hand tools and power tools.
At least 21 years old.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; no driving‑related suspensions or revocations within the last 3–5 years.
Preferred ability to drive a non‑commercial truck and trailer.
Available for a 40‑hour work week, which may include weekends, holidays, and early morning, evening, or overnight shifts.
Proficient with laptops or computers in Windows or Mac environments.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., sit, stand, walk, and manipulate tools; perform routine occupational tasks.
Ability to read and speak fluent English.
Ability to see, read, and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, or schematics.
Will interact regularly with customers, third‑party affiliates, and suppliers within Rivian facilities, mobile service routes, or community outreach events.
Experience
Hands‑on automotive shop experience is highly preferred, but recent automotive graduates are encouraged to apply. This role welcomes entry‑level to career technicians.
Background in electric vehicle (EV) or hybrid repair is a plus.
Experience in startup environments is preferred.
Experience with parts departments, billing, and work order management systems is preferred.
Spectrum of Technical Skills
Low Voltage & Electrical Systems: foundational electricity theory, safe use of DVOM, reading electrical schematics.
High Voltage Systems: safety with high‑voltage components, PPE, diagnostic of high‑voltage faults.
Chassis, Brakes & Suspension: tire mounting, alignment, brake component replacement, diagnostic of mechanical and dynamic issues.
Thermal Systems: coolant drain‑and‑fill, refrigerant handling (609 certification), A/C system diagnostics.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS): basic operation, replacement, calibration, and advanced functional knowledge.
Body & Glass: glass removal/installation, windshields, body panel adjustments, noise and water‑leak diagnostics.
Pay Disclosure Night shift times vary by location. Employees working night shifts receive a 20% shift differential in addition to base hourly pay.
Salary Range (California) $0 – $38.10 per hour (actual compensation depends on experience, location, and legal factors).
