Overview Our General Counsel’s Office (GCO) supports EY’s business by providing trusted legal advisors and high‑quality services to EY’s service lines and business enablement functions.
The Opportunity Senior Counsel, Employment Law, serves a critical advisory and risk management function, addressing compliance with all relevant laws, regulations and firm policies governing the human resources aspects of the firm’s business.
Your Key Responsibilities
Manage and participate in active Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Department of Labor (DOL), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and state agency proceedings and disputes alleging violations of employment statutes.
Manage a docket of employment litigation cases in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) – mediations and arbitrations.
Conduct internal investigations regarding allegations of unlawful behavior, including sexual or racial harassment, discriminatory conduct or retaliation.
Vet proposed terminations and consult with HR professionals and business leaders to devise selection criteria for reductions in force, exit incentives and early retirement programs.
Draft, review and negotiate employment and separation agreements and other employment‑related contracts.
Advise on compensation, wage and hour matters, recruiting policies, leave and accommodation requests, benefits plans and occasional immigration matters.
Advise on firm employment‑related policies, training, and inclusiveness materials.
Provide strategic guidance to Talent Team, business leaders and internal functions on best practices and workplace issue resolution.
Create, update and deliver educational training sessions for practice leaders and Talent Team professionals on employment regulations and laws.
Monitor emerging employment laws and provide strategic guidance to ensure ongoing compliance.
Advise on international HR issues relating to cross‑border assignments and immigration.
Consult on strategic initiatives such as acquisitions, divestitures, and public‑policy projects.

To Qualify for This Role, You Must Have
5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department.
Expertise in federal, state and local employment laws affecting HR.
Advanced knowledge of trial work, litigation, arbitration, mediation and tactics.
Working knowledge of international employment issues, including immigration.
ERISA experience or familiarity and willingness to expand such expertise.
Strong organizational skills and ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Superior verbal, written and presentation skills; diplomacy and effective communication with all levels of EY personnel.
Excellence and interest in working collaboratively as part of a high‑performing legal team.
Juris Doctor (JD) from a top law school; top of class preferred.
Membership in good standing in the State Bar and current with CLE requirements.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4‑year college or university; top of class preferred.
Ability to travel as needed within the United States.
Supervision Responsibilities
Reports to the Associate General Counsel/Head of Employment Law in the GCO.
Operates independently with discretion and decision‑making authority.
Manages outside counsel in defense of the firm.
Provides advice and direction to Talent Team professionals and business leaders.
Provides briefings and strategic plans on active cases and important matters to GCO leaders.
Provides direction to GCO employment law paralegals.
What We Offer You
Comprehensive compensation and benefits package with base salary range $177,800 to $332,400 nationwide; $213,300 to $377,800 in New York City Metro Area and Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento).
