The opportunity The Senior Counsel, Employment Law advises EY’s business leaders on employment law matters and protects the firm from compliance risks. You will partner with the Americas Talent Team, practice leaders, and other stakeholders to provide counsel, litigation representation, policy development, and strategic guidance.
Your Key Responsibilities
Represent EY in federal and state employment litigation, mediation, arbitration, and agency proceedings.
Review and negotiate restrictive covenants for incoming executive personnel and litigate as necessary.
Conduct investigations of alleged discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or other misconduct and provide findings to leadership.
Draft, review, and negotiate employment contracts, separation agreements, and other workplace agreements.
Advise on compensation, wage and hour, recruiting, leave, accommodation, benefits, and immigration matters.
Provide strategic guidance on firm policies, best‑practice training, and updates to keep the workforce compliant and inclusive.
Monitor emerging employment law and recommend policy changes to ensure ongoing compliance.
Provide legal advice on strategic initiatives such as practice group or business acquisitions, divestitures, and public policy matters.
Assist with projects from a public policy perspective, including amicus briefs and legislative initiatives.

Provide timely, business‑driven legal advice that complies with law and risk objectives.
Identify policy gaps, implement changes, and disseminate knowledge to the Talent Team.
Exhibit zealous advocacy and strong litigation skills grounded in superior employment knowledge.
Prioritize and execute multiple diverse tasks effectively.
To qualify for this role
5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department.
Expertise in federal, state, and local employment laws affecting the firm’s business.
Advanced knowledge of trial work, litigation/arbitration/mediation rules, procedures, and tactics.
Working knowledge of international employment issues, including immigration and related mobility matters.
ERISA experience or familiarity, with willingness to expand as needed.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Superior verbal, written, and presentation skills; ability to interface with all levels of EY personnel.
Juris Doctor (JD) from a top law school; top of class preferred.
Membership in good standing in the State Bar and current with CLE requirements.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4‑year college/university; top of class preferred.
Ability to travel within the U.S. and work alongside the GCO Employment Law team in the NYC office as needed.
Supervision Responsibilities
Position reports to the Associate General Counsel/Head of Employment Law in the GCO.
Operates independently with discretion and decision‑making authority on matters.
Manages outside counsel defending the firm.
Provides advice and direction to Talent Team professionals and business leaders.
Provides frequent briefings and strategic plans on active cases to GCO leaders and business leaders.
Provides direction to GCO employment law paralegals.
