The opportunity
Represent the firm in various legal proceedings, including litigation, mediation, arbitration, and agency proceedings under applicable employment laws.
Review and interpret restrictive covenants for incoming executive personnel and litigate as necessary.
Analyze and counsel on workforce resource management and support innovative workforce projects.
Conduct sensitive investigations into alleged violations of firm policies, including discrimination, harassment, and EEO misconduct.
Provide employment law risk management advice on HR/EEO issues.
Your Key Responsibilities
Manage and participate in active EEOC, DOL, OSHA, and state agency proceedings related to employment statutes.
Manage a docket of employment litigation cases in ADR—mediations and arbitrations; coordinate strategy and budget with external counsel.
Conduct internal investigations of alleged unlawful behavior.
Vet proposed terminations and consult with HR and leaders on RIF criteria.
Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements and related contracts.
Advise on compensation, recruiting, leave, benefits, and immigration matters.
Advise on firm employment policies, trainings, and inclusiveness.
Provide strategic guidance to Talent Team on best practices and workplace issues.
Create and deliver educational training sessions on current employment regulations.
Monitor emerging employment laws and advise on policy updates.
Advise on international assignment and cross-border human resources issues.
Provide legal advice on practice group acquisitions or divestitures.
Assist with public policy projects such as amicus briefs and legislative initiatives.

Provide creative, timely, business-driven legal advice in compliance with law and risk management goals.
Review and improve policies, implement change, and disseminate knowledge.
Demonstrate zealous advocacy and strong litigation skills.
Prioritize among multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
To qualify for this role, you must have
5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department.
Expertise in federal, state, and local employment laws affecting HR practices.
Advanced knowledge of trial work and litigation/arbitration/mediation tactics.
Knowledge of international employment issues, including immigration.
ERISA experience or familiarity.
Strong organizational skills and project execution.
Superior verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Experience working collaboratively as part of a high-performing legal team.
Juris Doctor (JD) from a top law school; top of class preferred.
Membership in good standing in the State Bar and current CLE requirements.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college; top of class preferred.
Availability to travel within the US and willingness to work alongside the GCO Employment Law team in NYC office.
Supervision Responsibilities
Position reports to Associate General Counsel/Head of Employment Law; supervision may be under experienced counsel.
Operates independently in various matters with discretion and decision-making authority.
Manages outside counsel in defense of the firm.
Provides advice and direction to Talent Team professionals and business leaders.
Provides frequent briefings and strategic plans on active cases to GCO leaders and business leaders.
Provides direction to GCO employment law paralegals.
