The
Human Resources Manager
oversees all HR operations for Project Pathfinder, including recruitment, hiring, employee relations, performance management, payroll, benefits, compliance, and offboarding. This role is both hands-on and strategic, supporting a small, mission-driven team that values open communication, accountability, and compassion. The HR Manager serves as a trusted advisor and business partner to leadership and supervisors, ensuring consistent application of HR policies and practices that align with organizational goals. The ideal candidate will bring 3–5 years of HR or management experience with the proven ability to develop policies and procedures from the ground up and conduct internal HR audits to ensure compliance and consistency across all areas of the organization. Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Hiring
Develop, post, and manage job openings across job boards and university networks. Communicate with applicants and referring agencies. Schedule interviews and maintain documentation of discussions and hiring decisions. Collect references and letters of recommendation. Prepare offer letters and new hire paperwork. Create and maintain complete employee files. Coordinate onboarding and orientation processes. Employee Relations & Engagement
Serve as an HR business partner to supervisors by providing guidance on employee relations, coaching, performance management, and workplace concerns. Conduct quarterly one-on-one meetings (alongside the Executive Director) with staff to gather feedback, discuss job satisfaction, and identify professional development opportunities. Participate in the PEP (Professional Engagement and Planning) Committee to plan and implement staff engagement activities. Develop and deliver employee and supervisor trainings on communication, leadership, and workplace expectations. Advise and assist supervisors in administering corrective actions, including verbal and written warnings, performance improvement plans, and disciplinary processes. Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture built on respect and accountability. Performance Management & Development
Maintain accurate and current job descriptions. Oversee annual performance review processes and ensure timely completion. Track performance outcomes, document feedback, and support professional growth initiatives. Assist with career development planning and recognition programs. Payroll, Benefits & Compliance
Process biweekly payroll accurately and on schedule. Administer employee benefits, including enrollments, changes, and terminations. Maintain compliance with all federal and state employment laws. Keep personnel files, HR records, and policy manuals up to date. Develop and audit HR policies and procedures to ensure best practices and compliance. Oversee employee offboarding and ensure all exit documentation is completed. Qualifications
3–5 years of professional HR experience in a generalist or management role. Proven ability to create and implement HR policies and procedures and conduct internal HR audits. Strong understanding of employment laws, payroll, and benefits administration. Demonstrated ability to support supervisors through coaching, training, and employee relations guidance. Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion. Experience with HRIS platforms (e.g., Paylocity, UKG) and Microsoft Office Suite preferred. Nonprofit or human services experience is a plus. Why Join Project Pathfinder
