Job Description and Duties This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing a wide variety of technical and analytical work associated with training, personnel, payroll, benefits, leave accounting issues, and special projects. Key responsibilities include:
Manage appointments, separations, benefits, and leave accounting balance audits.
Assist with workload associated with vacant rosters, complex technical issues, and backlogged work.
Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external departmental staff and control agency personnel.
Perform expert staff resource duties for a wide variety of technical and analytical work associated with training, personnel, payroll, benefits, leave accounting issues, and special projects.
Desirable Qualifications
Expert knowledge of the State of California’s payroll and benefit program, procedures, processes, and applicable laws and regulations.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present information and express ideas in a clear, confident, and convincing manner.
Strong experience with data analysis, metrics, and reporting.
Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications, and willingness to learn new technological tools.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplined team environment with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure to meet quick deadlines.
Excellent attendance.

Eligibility Information If you are new to California State Service, you must take and pass the examination for this classification to be eligible for hire. Current state employees without transfer or list eligibility must also complete and pass the examination for this classification to qualify for this position.
Telework Information This position may be eligible for telework up to three (3) days per week and is required to report in-person to the designated headquarters office location a minimum of two (2) days per week. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change.
Salary Range Class A:
$3,861.00 - $4,839.00 Class B:
$4,181.00 - $5,233.00 Class C:
$5,014.00 - $6,276.00 Class A (Alternate):
$6,031.00 - $7,547.00
