Senior Project Engineer
will serve as a technical expert for safety compliance evaluation of information technology, audio/video, laboratory, and household electrical equipment. This role involves conducting testing and evaluations in accordance with
UL 62368-1 ,
UL 61010-1 ,
UL 60335-1
and related part 2 standards, and equivalent
IEC / CSA
standards. The successful candidate will manage complex projects, mentor junior engineers, liaise directly with clients, and ensure compliance with SGS quality systems and accreditation requirements. Key Responsibilities Technical & Project Management Lead and execute compliance evaluations of electrical products per
UL, IEC, and CSA
standards, including design review, testing, and documentation. Develop detailed test plans and review laboratory test data for compliance and consistency with certification requirements. Interpret and apply
standard clauses , safety requirements, and deviation analyses between UL, IEC, and CSA standards. Ensure accurate and timely completion of projects while maintaining high technical integrity and client satisfaction. Prepare comprehensive
test reports ,
construction reviews , and
rationale justifications
for certification decisions. Perform or oversee safety testing related to electrical, mechanical, thermal, and fault condition evaluations. Evaluate construction, creepage and clearance distances, insulation systems, protective bonding, and component approvals. Communicate directly with clients to clarify technical requirements, resolve design nonconformities, and explain test results. Provide engineering guidance to manufacturers during product development to ensure compliance readiness. Represent SGS at industry meetings, UL STP/IEC TC working groups, and relevant technical forums where applicable. Mentor junior engineers and technicians in test methodology, report writing, and standard interpretation. Support process improvement initiatives, internal audits, and quality management system enhancements. Contribute to continuous training within the General Safety team to maintain technical competency across the group. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent). Minimum
5–8 years
of experience in product safety compliance testing, preferably with a
Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL)
such as SGS, UL, Intertek, or CSA. Demonstrated experience with
UL 62368-1 ,
UL 61010-1 ,
UL 60335-series , and corresponding
IEC/CSA
standards. Familiarity with related directives and frameworks (e.g., Low Voltage Directive, CB Scheme, and North American Certification). Technical Skills Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, performing fault condition testing, and analyzing protective circuit performance. Strong working knowledge of
isolation, dielectric strength, leakage current, and temperature rise testing . Skilled in using laboratory instrumentation (multimeters, hipot testers, thermocouples, power analyzers, etc.). Excellent written and verbal communication for preparing technical reports and client correspondence. Core Competencies Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
