Role Becoming an Actuarial Data Scientist is the ideal opportunity to influence the usage of cutting edge advanced machine learning technology in the insurance industry and to have a visible effect on the product roadmap of one of the world’s foremost insurtech companies.

This position interacts with every team at Akur8 to various degrees: Sales, Product, R&D, Marketing, Engineering, and Leadership. You will be a subject matter expert and will act as a translator between all of these departments and the “language” of insurance, actuaries, and our clients. Externally, you will work with client contacts such as Heads of Pricing, Heads of Product, CTOs, Actuaries, and Data Scientists.

To be successful, an Actuarial Data Scientist at Akur8 must be :

A Teacher

— lead proof of concepts with potential clients and clearly communicate modeling concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. You’ll cover highly advanced modeling topics with experienced actuaries and may start from foundational modeling approaches with new modelers.

Creative

— think beyond traditional models and identify creative approaches to use Akur8 features to answer ad hoc actuarial questions.

A Problem Solver

— assist clients by quickly diagnosing misalignments between a modeler’s use of the software and Akur8’s underlying assumptions.

A Visionary

— provide feedback to inform Akur8’s roadmap and identify features or offerings beneficial to the software and the industry; work with the product team to define problems and evaluate solutions.

Additionally, you’ll contribute to white papers and present at conferences or webinars to establish Akur8’s leadership in the United States and other markets. Travel is required for approximately 1 event per month, including team-building trips to our Paris office or North American offices, industry conferences, and possibly onsite client meetings.

IMPORTANT :

Preference will be given to applicants who can work from our New York office, but remote work is acceptable if you prove to be a very strong candidate based in the Eastern or Central timezones.

Qualifications

A minimum of 7+ years experience in a P&C / General / Health insurance pricing role as a Pricing Actuary, Actuarial Consultant or Data Scientist

FCAS credentials

A strong understanding of Data Science and Machine Learning techniques for predictive modeling; (note: no coding is involved in this role, though knowledge of Python / R / SAS is a strength)

Experience in actuarial data-driven predictive modeling (GLMs / GAMs) & risk analysis in a P&C / General insurance pricing role

Ability to understand insurance business imperatives and establish solutions in accordance with them

Strong communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences

Readiness to travel when required (approximately 5 working days per month)

Native-level English
