Role Summary/Purpose:
Synchrony is continuing to build a world class Digital Bank – with smart savings products and capabilities that help consumers prepare for their futures. Our Consumer Bank agile teams bring these products to life through all stages and touchpoints of the customer lifecycle. This role as Consumer Bank Digital API Product Owner will be responsible for leading the API implementation of new features and enhancements to our consumer bank. We are seeking an agile‑trained product owner that has experience with API teams and strong technical acumen.
Essential Responsibilities
Identify business needs and translate to business requirements and stories for our API teams, known as the Business Services Layer (BSL)
Influence decisions by providing technical consultation and direction to stakeholders alongside our Technical Product Owners
Work closely with Technical Product Owners to ensure technical implementation meets the business requirements and business rules
Deep dive into complex technical systems
Communicate and coordinate with front‑end developers and other API consumers
Recommend new technology trends and innovative products/features to the teams
Lead the wing‑to‑wing product development lifecycle, including build, test, launch, and adoption
Work with the Agile Development Team and Scrum Master, lead backlog planning and grooming, and support Release planning
Coordinate and lead user acceptance testing (UAT) for releases
Work with UX partners to create screen prototypes/wireframes, gather feedback and adjust to optimize performance
Partner with key stakeholders (Marketing, IT, Compliance, Credit/Risk and Operations) to identify and prioritize future features and manage the product backlog
Lead “run the engine” functions for the team such as triaging defects, employee education, user inquiries, and SLA issues
Partner with Digital Analytics team to monitor usage patterns online and use tools such as Omniture, GA, and Splunk
Maintain up‑to‑date product and API documentation
Collaborate with Consumer Bank Digital Product Owners to create a unified digital customer experience
Participate in SAFe as part of a Solution Train
Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or high school equivalent and 8+ years of experience as a Product Owner within a consumer banking organization
4+ years of digital product owner experience
2+ years of API and/or services management
Desired Characteristics
Agile and/or SAFe experience in a product owner role
Creative problem‑solving skills and ability to thrive in a cross‑functional virtual environment
High energy, self‑motivated and strong verbal and written communication skills
Passion for learning about new technologies and driving innovation
Analytical mindset and strong presentation skills
Experience influencing across a matrix environment and strategic thinking
Proven ability to develop and implement action plans to drive business results
Strong project management experience with a record of delivering on time
Strong digital proficiency, including launching new products and capabilities
Understanding of mobile and web applications
Experience leading large cross‑functional virtual project teams
Experience with API teams
Grade/Level: 11
Salary: $90,000.00 - $155,000.00 USD Annual, eligible for an annual bonus based on performance. Salary adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.
