ROAD & BRIDGE DEPARTMENT - TRAFFIC SIGN & MARKINGS WORKER

PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION WILL BE LOCATED AT THE HORIZON WAREHOUSE LOCATED AT 15311 EL ROSIO RD, 79928. HOWEVER, IT IS TEMPORARILY REPORTING TO THE FABENS WAREHOUSE LOCATED AT 1331 N FABENS ST, 79938.
Acceptable Experience and Education
High school diploma or equivalent; and six (6) months general services work or trades helper experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Certificates and Licenses Required Must have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.
Essential Duties
Assists in setting up, and repairing prefabricated traffic control, street name and information signs following applicable state and local regulations, and established department procedures.
Installs and removes signs for traffic control at construction projects being performed by the Road & Bridge Dept.; installs and replaces required County Street and traffic control signs.
Fabricates traffic control signs and street name signs.
Keeps inventory of materials for traffic control signs and street name sign fabrication.
Assembles sign faces and fixtures.
Cuts and trims metal pipe and angle iron for signposts, hangers, and frames.
Paints angle iron and metal pipe.
As directed makes work site measurements and locate postholes within specified distance tolerances.
Assists in notifying property owners that trees or bushes obstruct vehicular traffic views of legally required signage.
Digs postholes in ground or drill them in cement with jackhammer, and inserts and secures posts in cement bases.
Mounts signs on posts with strapping, and hang signs from overhead arms by climbing ladder or riding boom lift as necessary.
Straightens bent signs, patch concrete post bases, reattaches fallen signs, replaces missing signs and broken strapping, or fixes similar damage.
Picks up and disposes of dead animals along county roads and properties.
Assists co-workers with various related tasks.
Substitutes, if assigned, during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity of normal operations.
Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrates commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts.
Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.
Other Important Duties
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
May work weekends, holidays, and 24/7 standby.
Maintains a safe and healthy work place environment.
As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.
Summary of Position The Traffic Sign & Markings Worker is responsible for assisting in the installation and removal of signs related to construction projects under the direction of the Road & Bridge Department. Works in strict adherence to guidelines and under close and frequent supervision.
Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: fabricating and installing traffic control and street signs.
Skill/Ability to: learn design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of street and traffic control signs; traffic laws and regulations involved in equipment operation; operate light to heavy trucks; work in extreme temperatures in an outdoor work environment; understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and superiors.
Pass a Criminal Background Investigation.
Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.
Work well with others and participate fully in a team oriented environment.
Interface with other employees and customers in a courteous and respectful manner.
Maintain strict confidentiality.
Project positive support of their department and all county organizations at all times.
Maintain and enhance the County’s commitment to customer service excellence.
