What You’ll Do
We’re looking for an Experienced Software Engineer to join our mobile app team. You’ll collaborate with a talented group of engineers in a fast‑paced, agile environment focused on innovation and impact. This role centers on building and enhancing the Principal® app, a top‑rated mobile experience that helps millions manage their retirement, insurance, and investment accounts with confidence. You’ll work hands‑on with React Native, TypeScript, and AWS to deliver intuitive, secure, and scalable features. We’re looking for someone comfortable wearing many hats, eager to solve problems across the stack, and passionate about creating meaningful digital experiences that help people take control of their financial futures.
What You’ll Do
Develop a best‑in‑class mobile application using React Native.
Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and other engineers to deliver innovative features.
Contribute to feature definition and technical design, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
Foster a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement.
Build scalable systems using cloud technologies (AWS).
Write clean, maintainable code and apply industry best practices.
Mentor and support other engineers as they grow their mobile development skills.
Who You Are
Associate or bachelor’s degree (preference in computer science, technology, engineering or math‑related field or equivalent experience).
3+ years of professional software development experience.
2+ years of hands‑on mobile app development experience.
Experience with cloud technologies (AWS).
Strong experience with React/React Native and TypeScript.
Experience developing and debugging apps on both iOS and Android platforms.
Excellent problem‑solving, planning, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Salary Range Information Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non‑sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non‑Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$81,900 - $147,600 / year
Time Off Program Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short‑term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments This role offers in‑office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, Charlotte, NC or Raleigh, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
