Overview
cFocus Software is seeking a Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Subject‑Matter Expert (SME) / Technical Lead to design, implement, and manage enterprise‑wide DLP solutions supporting a federal agency’s cybersecurity program. The SME/Technical Lead will provide expert‑level oversight of DLP tools, ensure protection of sensitive information across data in motion, at rest, and in use, and lead initiatives to secure cloud, web, and email transmission channels. This position requires deep expertise in enterprise‑scale DLP implementations, strong technical acumen, and the ability to lead teams in developing effective data protection strategies and governance processes.
This is a full‑time position that may require on‑site support at federal agency locations in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Some telework flexibility may be available depending on mission requirements.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or higher‑level security clearance as required by the agency.
Responsibilities
Lead the design, implementation, and management of enterprise‑scale DLP solutions to protect sensitive and classified data.
Operate DLP tools across data in motion, data at rest, and data in use environments, analyzing results and identifying potential risks.
Protect sensitive data across M365, email, web, and cloud platforms, ensuring secure data transmission and compliance with federal security requirements.
Develop, configure, and maintain DLP policies, incident workflows, and governance processes to enforce data security standards.
Perform risk assessments, policy tuning, and incident triage to ensure effective data protection and minimize false positives.
Lead or serve as the technical point of contact for enterprise DLP implementation and integration efforts.
Collaborate with cybersecurity, compliance, and IT operations teams to address DLP findings and improve security posture.
Integrate DLP solutions with SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk) to enhance visibility, correlation, and automated alerting.
Oversee DLP operations in large‑scale environments supporting 10,000+ endpoints or users, with preference for experience managing 50,000+ clients.
Provide training, mentoring, and technical guidance to team members and stakeholders on DLP policies and best practices.
Generate reports, dashboards, and metrics on DLP incidents, policy violations, and data protection effectiveness for senior leadership.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (preferred).
Demonstrable credentials reflecting knowledge, skills, and experience operating DLP tools for data in motion, data at rest, and data in use.
Experience analyzing and interpreting results from DLP tools to identify data leakage risks.
Experience protecting sensitive data and securing transmission avenues such as M365, email, web, and cloud environments.
5+ years of experience in cybersecurity or information security.
3+ years of hands‑on experience with Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools and technologies.
Experience leading or serving as the technical point of contact in enterprise‑scale DLP implementations.
Experience operating in large environments with at least 10,000+ endpoints or users, preferably supporting 50,000+ clients.
Experience integrating DLP solutions with SIEMs (e.g., Splunk).
Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining DLP policies, incident workflows, and governance processes.
Experience conducting risk assessments, policy tuning, and incident triage for effective data protection.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting DHS or other federal agencies in implementing enterprise‑scale DLP or data protection solutions.
Familiarity with federal cybersecurity compliance frameworks, including NIST SP 800‑53, FISMA, and FedRAMP.
Experience with DLP tools such as Symantec, McAfee, Digital Guardian, Microsoft Purview, or Forcepoint.
Knowledge of data classification, encryption, and insider threat mitigation strategies.
Strong analytical and communication skills for interacting with executives and technical teams.
Experience automating DLP reporting and integrating results into enterprise dashboards.
