Roasting and Production Assistant
Compensation: $23–$25/hr, depending on experience
Schedule: Full time: Sunday-Thursday 6:30am-2:30pm
Founded in Los Angeles in 2016, Canyon Coffee is a wholesale and e-commerce coffee roasting company with cafés in Echo Park and (soon) Brooklyn, NY. We roast at our facility in Downtown LA, where we focus on sourcing and roasting high‑quality organic and Regenerative Organic Certified® coffee. Position Overview
We’re looking for a Roasting and Production Assistant to join our roasting and production team at our DTLA roastery. The ideal candidate has a few years of roasting experience—preferably on a Loring roaster—and is comfortable working in a fast‑paced production environment. This role will support the Head Roaster and Production Manager in daily roasting operations and will also assist with production tasks such as packaging roasted coffee and maintaining a clean, organized workspace.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily roasting operations, including green coffee preparation, logging data, and ensuring roast consistency.
- Operate and maintain roasting equipment (Loring S70), following established roast profiles and safety standards.
- Weigh, bag, label, and seal roasted coffee for wholesale and retail orders.
- Track and record production data accurately for inventory and quality control.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organized roasting and production area.
- Participate in quality control activities such as cuppings and sample roasting.
- Support the production team as needed to ensure timely fulfillment of customer orders.
Qualifications
- 2–3 years of coffee roasting experience, ideally including experience with Loring Smart Roasters.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and consistency.
- Familiarity with green coffee, roast profiles, and production workflows.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods during production shifts.
- Self‑motivated, dependable, and organized.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in a coffee production or warehouse setting.
- Basic familiarity with spreadsheets and data entry.
- Knowledge of green coffee storage and handling best practices.
- Forklift certification or box truck driving experience a plus (not required).
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This role is performed in a production roastery environment with exposure to heat, noise, and airborne particulates typical of coffee roasting. Reasonable protective equipment is provided. The position requires frequent standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, and reaching.
- Hourly pay $23–$25/hr based on experience (overtime non‑exempt)
