Managing Director, Tax Digital Transformation & Innovation Product Management

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in tax and technology product development with a proven track record of successfully launching and managing products that enable the delivery of professional services.
Job Summary The Managing Director coordinates with the tax practice and software development team to set the strategic direction for creating and implementing technology to meet the needs of our clients and professionals and oversees a portfolio of products.
Product Roadmap and Value Creation
Defines and executes the product vision, strategy, and roadmap to maximize value delivered by ensuring the prioritization of the roadmap is aligned with tax practice strategy and needs.
Manages product scope, budget, and timeline.
Leads the product team in delivering value.
Coordinates with the DT&I leadership team and portfolio management leader to track and report business value and value creation.
Manages the product portfolio and lifecycle, including new product development and decisions regarding product discontinuation.
Oversees market analysis, competitive analysis, and product positioning.
Ensures the product delivers the outcomes agreed upon with the business and appropriately supports the business strategy.
Product Development Lifecycle Management
Ensures products are developed consistently with BDO’s tax technology strategy and guiding principles.
Champions agile and incremental product development to ensure product team members are following leading practices of SDLC (software development lifecycle).
Oversees the process of gathering requirements/user stories and works with business analysts and subject matter experts to refine the product backlog regularly.
Oversees the development and execution of product business testing plans.
Coordinates with the tax practice and technical teams for product release logistics.
Ensures all required pre‑release reviews and approvals are completed prior to release.
Manages the creation and execution of the deployment, adoption, and change management plans.
Manages the execution of product maintenance plans and budget.
Ensures product complies with all relevant policies and risk issues are identified and addressed.
Stakeholder Management
Serves as a face of the product for stakeholders, coordinating and communicating proactively with all relevant stakeholders.
Obtains stakeholder buy‑in to ensure the product roadmap aligns with business requirements and priorities.
Serves as a liaison between the business and developers, gathering and applying feedback from users and others in the tax practice.
Proactively manages stakeholder expectations and engagement to ensure product success.
Liaises with Office of Tax Quality and Risk Management (OTQRM) to ensure products adhere to Tax quality and risk management firm standards.
Deployment, Adoption and Implementation
Jointly responsible with deployment team for deployment and adoption strategy.
Works with deployment terms members to ensure successful deployment and adoption of the product.
Identifies and guides training needs and plan.
Proactively addresses concerns raised by users.
Market Presence
Leads strategy discussions with pursuit teams about how to best leverage capabilities of products to create a strategic advantage in pursuits.
Responsible for working with marketing to create overall market strategy for products, including those used solely to support BDO services.
Participates in pursuits by presenting BDO’s technology stack capabilities related to products under management.
Educates tax professionals and business development professionals on BDO’s technology tools and how to present them as part of their pursuits and leverage them effectively on engagements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Ensures appropriate resources are assigned to managers, senior associates, and associates on projects to meet objectives and timelines.
Oversees Product Management managers, senior associates, and associates working on assigned projects.
Acts as career advisor to team members as assigned.
Education
Bachelor’s degree, required; focus in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Business Administration or Computer Science, preferred.
Master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation or J.D., preferred.
Experience
Twelve (12) or more years of experience in tax and/or technology product management, required.
Six (6) or more years of experience in tax, preferred.
Six (6) or more years of experience in technology product management with a track record of successfully launching and managing product, preferred.
Experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, partnership taxation, and individual taxation, preferred.
Experience with process design and/or improvement, preferred.
Experience serving in a product management/product owner role for enterprise grade tax applications that support the delivery of professional services, preferred.
License & Certifications
CPA, JD, EA, PMP, or other relevant certification, preferred.
Certified Product Manager, preferred.
Software
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, required.
Experience with project management tools (Azure DevOps, Jira, etc.), preferred.
Experience with Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Income Tax compliance (OIT) software and ONESOURCE Tax Provision, preferred.
Salary Range National Range: $200,000 - $350,000 Maryland Range: $200,000 - $350,000 NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $200,000 - $350,000
