Department This position is within FSU’s Department of Information Technology Services (ITS).
Responsibilities This position is in the Network Communication Technologies-Operations group. NCT-Operations is responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting and configuration of Local Area Networks across FSU campus. This includes network switching, Voice hardware, Wireless access points, UPS maintenance, port activations and Life cycle replacement of Network hardware. NCT-Operations is also responsible for troubleshooting Network outages and works directly with our Architecture, Infrastructure and Engineering groups.
This position serves as a network specialist for the FSU NCT Operations network team. Responsible for supervising the daily installation and administrative operations for campus wide networking infrastructure. The area of specialization encompasses support of the computer network transport infrastructure.
The position will concentrate on Network Operations Support of a base of networking equipment, operating software, and/or network security applications, which encompasses wired and wireless data networks servicing voice, video and data applications on campus. This position's duties include regular 24-hour on-call support through the diagnosis of problems and taking appropriate action in sharing full responsibilities for the continued operation of the FSU campus network.
Designs and implements campus-wide networking solutions. Specifies, installs, configures, monitors and manages campus network infrastructure. Collects and analyzes network performance monitoring data.
Advise the Associate, Assistant Director on the ongoing policies and standards to ensure that current policies remain up-to-date and relevant in a dynamic network environment. Provide technical advice to ITS management regarding complex computer/network-related problems and applications.
Supervise technical staff and coordinate installation planning, scheduling and work assignments. Coordinate project schedules and delivery with other NCT groups and contractors under the direction of the Assistant Director. Help to provide mentoring, coaching, and training to other team members. Assist with obtaining necessary resources to support the team's requirements. Coordinate with internal and external customers and familiarize the team with customer needs, specifications, design targets, the development process, design standards, and techniques and tools to support task performance.
Other duties as required. A State vehicle, golf cart, or utility vehicle will be used to reach site premises. A valid driver's license will be needed in order to operate vehicle.
Perform duties in compliance with ITS policies, guidelines, and processes pertaining to support requests, work orders, project management, change management, and incident management. Appropriately utilize associated tools in accordance with ITS standards.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree and two years' experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)
A valid Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory experience.
Strong background in network switching.
Strong customer service– verbal and written communication skills.
