Job Overview
WSP is seeking a Highway Resident Engineer to oversee new, replacement, or rehabilitated infrastructure projects valued between $1‑$50 million. The position can be based in Boston, Worcester, Chelmsford, MA or Providence, RI. Key Responsibilities
Manage and supervise a staff of inspectors, material technicians, and surveyors. Interface daily with contractors, subcontractors, and project owners. Chair progress meetings and prepare minutes. Review and interpret construction contract documents, ensuring conformance to plans and specifications. Evaluate technical submittals and shop drawings for intent and compliance. Anticipate and resolve design and construction issues. Review contractor schedules and assess schedule logic. Track daily reports, measurements, and unit price quantities. Lead contractor pay requisition development, review, and approval. Assess potential change orders and negotiate owner positions. Monitor traffic compliance and maintain traffic maintenance records. Take and compile photographs for daily progress tracking. Update drawings in Bluebeam and prepare punch lists. Coordinate final inspections, prepare final pay estimates, and support project closeout. Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds and resources, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies. Maintain workplace safety and comply with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies. Required Qualifications
High School Diploma. 9 years of applicable experience, including 4 years of supervising staff. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; average proficiency with MS Word Suite. Valid driver’s license. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies. Preferred Qualifications
Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. ACI or NETTCP certifications or ability to attain within 3 months of hiring. Hands‑on experience with construction management software such as Site or Field Manager, Procore, IPD, or similar systems; knowledge of Bluebeam. Demonstrated supervisory skills.
