Job Overview
WSP is a leading engineering firm worldwide. The Highway Resident Engineer role oversees replacement and rehabilitated infrastructure valued $1–$50M. Candidates can be based in Boston, Worcester, Chelmsford, MA or Providence, RI. The resident engineer reports to the Construction Manager or Project Manager and may represent them on the field. Responsibilities
Manage and oversee work elements including excavation, backfilling, compaction, cast‑in‑place concrete from formwork to reinforcement, MSE walls, guardrail, drainage, overhead sign structures and incidental items. Lead a staff of inspectors and on‑call material technicians or surveyors. Interface daily with the contractor, subcontractors and project owner; chair progress meetings and prepare minutes. Review, interpret construction contract documents; oversaw work for conformance to plans and specifications. Review technical submittals and shop drawings for compliance. Anticipate and resolve design and construction issues; review contractor’s schedule for logic and general information. Complete daily reports, measurements, calculations and track unit price quantities. Lead contractor’s pay requisition development, review and approval process; evaluate change orders and negotiate with owner. Monitor traffic maintenance compliance and take photographs to track daily progress. Update red‑line drawings using Bluebeam; prepare and update punch lists; coordinate final inspections and prepare final pay estimate and close‑out process. Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies. Prove track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Impact

Required
High School Diploma. 9 years of applicable experience, including 4 years supervising staff. Excellent verbal and written communication; average proficiency with MS Word Suite. Valid driver’s license. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Preferred
Associate of Science Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or related field. Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or related field. ACI or NETTCP certifications, or ability to attain within 3 months of hiring. Hands‑on experience with construction management software such as Site or Field Manager, APPIA, Procore, IPD or similar systems; knowledge of Bluebeam. Demonstrated supervisory skills; any combination of college education, professional licenses, certifications and experience considered. About WSP
