Corporate Counsel – Insurable Claims
Best Buy invites applications for the Corporate Counsel – Insurable Claims position to join our Enterprise Insurance Risk team. Scope & Responsibilities
Leads strategy and direction for all litigated insurance claims. Provides technical guidance to internal partners and the claims administrator on claim management and resolution. Manages outside counsel relationships, billing, discovery support and drives effective claim outcomes. Leads two associate claims managers and provides strategic guidance on claim program development, planning and process improvements. Supports development of key performance metrics and monitors those metrics to ensure deliverables are met. Oversees relationship management with claim service providers (third‑party claim administrator, managed care, non‑subscription, etc.). Liaises with Best Buy Insurance Company’s captive manager and internal business partners on significant claim developments and strategy. Partners with the broader claims team on the actuarial assessment for the casualty program, providing insights on claim development and guiding reserving decision‑making. Qualifications
JD degree from an accredited law school and license to practice in MN. 3+ years of post‑bar practicing attorney experience providing legal support in a combination of law firm, government or corporate/insurance company settings. 1+ year of experience directly leading teams. 3+ years managing and/or litigating insurable liability claims, including knowledge of insurance coverage terms, industry regulations and best practices. Intermediate proficiency in working with Excel and Microsoft Office products. Preferred Qualifications
Ability to evaluate complex situations using multiple information sources and provide practical advice on technical matters and business operations. Ability to quickly develop and maintain relationships and rapport with business owners, cross‑functional partners and outside counsel. Use communication and diplomacy skills required to direct, persuade, and influence clients and cross‑functional partners. Operate in a fast‑moving environment with minimal supervision. Open to expanding responsibilities into new areas if needed. Compensation & Benefits
