Peraton is seeking an Operations Shift Supervisor in Fort Irwin, CA to support our Deep Space Network (DSN) Operations and Maintenance O&M contract with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and NASA.
The Deep Space Network is NASA’s international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never before seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.
The selected individual will provide leadership and oversight of the day-to-day operations as the shift supervisor (SOD) during at Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex (GDSCC). The SOD must be aware of all functional operations of the deep space tracking stations, maintenance activities, personnel at the antennas, as well as emergency notification and response. The SOD controls the shift assignments and work schedules of the personnel, including the assignment of additional personnel when the shift schedule needs to be covered. The GDSCC Operations Shift supervisor must be able to react to issues in real-time in an effort to maintain data flow to the mission being supported on NASA/JPL Deep Space Network (DSN).
Responsibilities
Leads and oversees the daily operations of the DSN tracking schedule
Provides a single point of contact for all operations related issues on complex, and overseas sites during hours of controlling site operations
Adheres to and enforces all required safety procedures and protocol during operations control
Completes station operations paperwork, logs, discrepancy reports, and maintains required records
Maintains awareness and accounting of personnel as they access antennas during operation
Provides direction and support to all Ops personnel
Other duties as directed by the Operations Manager, or communicated by fellow SOD’s
Reports to the GDSCC Operations Manager, and when designated acts on behalf of the Operations Manager
