Division Chief of Operations & Safety
This full-time position with Suwannee County Fire Rescue serves as the Division Chief of Operations, a mid-level leadership position responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of fire operations within the department as well as the Health & Safety Officer for all of Suwannee County BOCC Departments. The primary focus of this position is managing the operations division under the general supervision of the Fire Chief. This role involves administrative work in the performance and direction of activities, coordinating emergency response services, supervising personnel, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and contributing to strategic planning and departmental development. Ensures that shift battalion chiefs effectively, efficiently, and safely execute all responsibilities consistent with the department’s standard operating guidelines. The Division Chief of Operations works closely with other division chiefs, senior staff, and community stakeholders to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of fire and emergency services to the public. The position is responsible for the administration and management of SCFR and the BOCC’s occupational safety and health program. Work is performed at a professional level in the fields of employee health and wellness, risk management, accident prevention, accident investigation, station/vehicle/equipment safety, training safety, incident safety, infection-control, critical incident stress management and post incident analysis. The position provides site-specific MSHA/OSHA compliance training to employees, contractors, and visitors. Provides MSHA/OSHA auditing, tier standards, site specific and area specific SOP’s regulations. Training is done on a continuous basis using practical sessions in the field, to ensure understanding and know-how. Monitors quality of service and provide recommendations for improvement. Provides motivation and mentor department members for professional growth and conducts employee orientation. Presents finalized programs in both meetings and field settings to members of the department as well as external agencies and members of the community. Maintains and runs the department’s staffing program. Performs a variety of Firefighter/Paramedic tasks as needed.
Minimum qualifications, high school diploma or equivalent. Must have a state of Florida Firefighter 2 Certification, State of Florida Paramedic Certification, ACLS Certification, BLS/CPR Certification, Fire Instructor I Certification, State of Florida Health & Safety Certification (or ability to obtain in 12 months), State of Florida Incident Safety Certification (or ability to obtain in 12 months). Must possess a Fire Officer III certification or an Associate of Science or higher degree in related field and a valid State of Florida driver’s license. Must have ten years’ experience as a certified firefighter, three of which must have been at the battalion chief level or higher or; any equivalent combination of training, education & experience.
Candidate with a bachelor’s degree, Fire Officer IV certification, and CFO or EFO designation is preferred.
The salary range for this position is $34.00 – $39.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience, plus a generous benefits package.
