Sandy Mac Evolution LLC is a Veteran-Owned company dedicated to connecting top talent with meaningful opportunities.
Job Description This opportunity is open only to individuals who currently hold an active U.S.Department of Defense (DoD) or NATO security clearance at the required level. Engagement will be under a 1099 / Business-to-Business (B2B) contractual arrangement — not a W-2 employment position.
As this is a B2B / 1099 engagement, benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plans are not provided. Contractors are responsible for managing their own taxes, insurance, and other business obligations in accordance with federal and state requirements.
A highly skilled data scientist with a degree in data science, computer science, mathematics, or a related field, and at least five years of experience in applying advanced analytics to defense or government projects. The ideal candidate is proficient in statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization, with hands-on expertise in tools such as Python, R, TensorFlow, and Power BI.
They should demonstrate a proven ability to transform complex datasets into actionable insights for operational and strategic decision-making. Experience working within NATO or multinational defense projects is essential, particularly in secure, classified environments. Strong communication skills are required to present analytical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Search Focus: Data scientists with NATO or defense project backgrounds, strong machine learning, and visualization expertise.
Responsibilities
Provide data science expertise to the DataScience and AI (DS&AI) Enablement & Outreach team supporting NATO ACT initiatives.
Design and develop advanced analytical models and algorithms to extract insights from structured and unstructured data sources.
Apply machine learning, statistical modeling, and predictive analytics to solve operational and strategic challenges.
Collaborate with AI engineers, analysts, and subject matter experts to build data-driven solutions aligned with mission objectives.
Develop, test, and validate AI/ML models for NATO operational and decision-support use cases.
Transform raw data into meaningful visualizations using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
Develop reusable data pipelines, scripts, and APIs for automated data ingestion, transformation, and analysis.
Ensure data quality, integrity, and security in accordance with NATO and DoD data handling protocols.
Prepare and deliver technical reports, white papers, and presentations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior data professionals in applying best practices for machine learning and data analytics.
Integrate AI/ML model outputs with visualization tools to communicate key findings and mission insights effectively.
Conduct exploratory data analysis and hypothesis testing to identify patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
Support ongoing data science and AI innovation by participating in experimentation, workshops, and NATO AI initiatives.
Perform additional analytical or technical support tasks as directed by the COTR within the scope of this contract.
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
At least 5 years of hands-on experience applying data science techniques to defense, government, or multinational projects.
Proficiency in Python, R, and related libraries for data manipulation, analysis, and machine learning (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
Experience with visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent to communicate findings effectively.
Strong understanding of machine learning, AI model development, and predictive analytics in applied settings.
Experience designing and deploying data workflows and pipelines, including automation via APIs and ETL processes.
Knowledge of NATO or defense data frameworks, classification standards, and secure data handling procedures.
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical results to senior leaders and non-technical audiences.
Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams in multinational defense or government organizations.
Proficiency in version control, DevOps collaboration tools, and modern data science environments (e.g., Git, Jupyter, VS Code).
Strong written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to brief and present findings to varied audiences.
NATO Secret or equivalent national security clearance required for on-site access.
